Opinion - My first game on the original XBOX was Mechassault. I loved the game and became an instant lover of the genre of giant Mechs blasting each other to kingdom come. Since then there hasn't been many other successful Mech games and the fan base dwindled. Then this game came along and I waited to see the review before taking the plunge of spending $60. The reviews ... well, let's say they weren't too good. Then I decided to check out a forum and see what lovers of the Mech genre thought. Guess what, it was positive. To my surprise many who love playing this type of game enjoyed it. There were some minor flaws but overall a satisfying experience. I then decided to buy the game despite the negative non-Mech player reviews.

Positive - If MechAssault had a child this game would be it. The feel, targeting, and movement brought back so many memories. Even the colored items for more health and ammo were the same freakin' colors. Yes the Mechs (Wanzers - I hate that name will continue to use Mech) had jets that helped them move quickly side to side, forward and back. But overall it was well balanced.

The action, controls, and movements felt perfect. However, you'll have to get use to holding your fingers over all of the controls buttons (RB, LB, Rtrigger, and Ltrigger) at the same time. Once you get use to this, fighting will flow better.

Frame-rate is good and environment looks good.

Negative - Sometimes you just have to laugh at the acting. It SUCKED like a bad B movie you'd catch on a Saturday. And what's up with the name EDGE Square Enix loves so much? I played a JRPG and the main character (whom I'd really wish I could slap) was named Edge. However, in this game E.D.G.E. is an added feature that slows down the action for a specific amount of time so you can focus your shots and give more damage than normal. Enough with the name EDGE, come up with something else!

The character drawing was cartoonish and not too realistic.

The battles were not ... well. how do I say, final. For example, there are several enemies you have to defeat. After you defeat them and their Mech is destroyed there's a cutscene showing them cursing you and running off with their Mech. Come on! This happened more than thrice! If I'd spent nearly 10 minutes battling someone I want that fight to mean something!

The non-Mech scenes (you get a chance to fight outside the Mech) were a joke and should've never been included.

Not all boss fights are equal in difficulty. Some are extremely challenging (when played on hard) while others can be defeated by a caveman.

Not much work was put into multiplayer but if you love playing through the game you'll put up with the unbalanced matching system (a Level 70 maxed out Mech can go up against a level 1 noob - Sheesh).

Overall - Other than the bad story line, short campaign, non-final boss fights, and unbalanced multiplayer. The game is a good game only for Mech-lovers. Much detail was put into the movement, control, and feel of the Mech and much less in the other aspects of the game. Overall I gave it a 7.0, a C, meaning that its a good game to play. BUT be very sure that you enjoy piloting a big Mech before you buy it or you just might be very upset.
