Friday the 13th: all too brief and mediocre game.

User Rating: 5.7 | Friday the 13th NES
I was surprised to see some of the www.gamespot.com player reviews on Friday the 13th for the NES. This game is nowhere nearly as difficult as many gamers claim it is. Even without a Game Genie, this is not a difficult game.

Friday the 13th was a repetitive game in which you had to kill Jason Voorhees and his mother on three different levels (days). You could control six different camp counselors, and your objective was to protect the children of Camp Crystal Lake by attacking Jason and defeating him both outdoors and inside the cabins.

After defeating day one, Jason -- and his mother -- are faster on day two. The gameplay is the same on all three levels... zombies rise out of the ground and chase you, and they are also faster on each new day. You encounter Jason in the cabins and outdoors, and defeat him.

This game gets very repetitive in that your journey through all three days are the same... the only difference is that Jason, his mother, and your other enemies are faster on the second and third days. But even with their increased speed, this was still a game that I felt was too easy to beat. I was able to beat the game between 20-30 minutes (and without using a Game Genie or any cheats or codes whatsoever).

I personally wouldn't recommend this game. It isn't very fun -- for me, at least. It was too easy. There was nothing groundbreaking or dynamic about this game. This game had no variety whatsoever as you progress from level to level. But if you want to give it a try, you should be able to find games such as this at cheap prices like other NES games today in the bargain bins.
