Fracture comes up with some neat ideas but along with the rest of the bland gameplay nothing works like it was meant to.

I knew what the stakes were when I got Fracture. I knew the mixed reactions it got but I saw it for a cheap price so I decided to try it out.
Fracture disappointed me.
It comes up with some cool ideas but the rest of the game is pretty bland, and there's not much reason to put the disk in again and progress through the campaign.
By "cool ideas" I mean the ability to alter terrain. Now making a hill and a hole might not sound very attractive but when you use it properly and to your advantage, this is when Fracture is at its best.
Now why make these weapons in the first place you may ask. Climate change of course!
The water is engulfing all the land so the people make these things that can alter the ground so they don't get flooded. To survive in this new world, people started cyberneticaly enhancing their bodies with robo suits and what not but another group started to genetically enhance themselves making them not human.
So yeah, they disagreed and there's a big war blah, blah, blah. The story sounds pretty good at first but it's not very engaging.
Nothing really draws you in or feels magical.
Now, lets talk about the weapons and gameplay.
Fracture is a third person shooter, in case you haven't already figured that out. The guns.... argh they aren't very good either. None of them are really memorable and when you get a really good gun you say... nothing. Because that's just the thing. You don't know when you get a good gun, or at least I didn't. They all sounded the same to me and the names where forgetable and none of them had any distinct features.br />
The shooting is ok. If you run around just shooting it's pretty boring. Some bad guys just don't seem to die though. Sometimes it feels like you're just standing there shooting at the same guy for a millenium. So the shooting feels kind of dead and uninspired. A minor complaint for me is that I hate using the R2 button to shoot. It feels sloppy and less precise. I dunno maybe it's just me. It sucked because I couldn't find a control scheme to switch it to R1 for me :( Mega bummer.
Anyway, you have a variety of terrain-altering abilities at your disposal which evolves over the course of gameplay.
A number of different grenades as well including my most favorite part of Fracture. Vortex grenades!! Chuck one around a group of bad guys and literally, everything gets sucked in to this giant vortex and the explodes. For me, that is truly the best part of Fracture.
Oh I almost forgot, Fracture is hard. Well not really hard, but frustrating. You can pretty much die for nothing and it's very frustrating when you do as some checkpoints are way back and you're like DAMMIT I DID THIS ALREADY!!!
So that's frustrating and had me going into major fits, I just wanted to snap the controller, as you can probably tell I hate frustration, that's why I'm avoiding Turok :P
On the other hand, the musical score is great! It makes things more engaging and epic than they normally would be. If only the music could save this game from what it is, an okay shooter with some cool things, but overall bland.
And what kind of a name is Jet Brody???
