I know Microsoft says they have their own built in SP and you should plug your console directly into the wall, but does anyone use their own SP? Would it damage the unit? Thanks!

@hondalover66: Ive heard differing forms of opinions on this, with most of them saying to plug your xbox directly into the wall. Ive had mine since the original launch date and i just started having issues for the first time, though not sure what the cause is.

@ranceporter: when you say you’ve had yours since the original launch, do you mean the Xbox One X that just came out 4 months ago or Xbox One S or just the original Xbox One?

I suggest you plug it straight into the wall

A surge protector will not damage your Xbox, but a surge can damage your Xbox even though it has a surge protector built in.

Thanks. I bought a SP and will only plug my Xbox One X in it. Nothing else.

I have mine connected to a shared SP and never had an issue.

I keep 99% of what i own plug into a 6-way surge protector. Not even cause I'm afraid of frying my electronics, but just cause I always need the extra sockets. There's definetly no harm in using one imo.

(Although a friend of mine at like 10 fried his PS2, which was plugged straight into an outlet. My sister also said he kept it running for weeks/months at a time.)
