Hi i recently went to game and got the Xbox wireless controller CHARGER and i plug it in to the Xbox and play happily. After about 2 hours of playing with it charging at the same time i take it out and it instantly runs out of power after charging it.2 hours isnt alot but it must be enough for at least half an hour.Am i supposed to plug it in to the Xbox and let it charge WITHOUT using it ?

you are supposed to plug it in and leave it plugged in until the light changes colour to let you know it is finished charging

that almost sounds like you got a bad battery. there's no reason it shouldn't be charged after two hours. did you buy it used? if so take that thing back.

masterja29 might be right, it sounds like you might have a bad battery. But if the battery is new too, leave it plugged into the console to charge. Maybe you just need that full, initial charge. You can play while it's charging. When the light on the cord changes from red to green, that means the battery is fully charged. If you are still charging and are done playing, you can turn the console off, but leave the USB cord plugged in and the console will continue to charge the battery. The console will appear off, but sound as if it is still on because it's still charging the battery, then it will automatically shut down completely when the battery is fully charged.

You're not charging the controller, you're charging the battery in the controller. You are using the 360 lithium battery right? You don't still have AA batteries in your controller, do you?
