Why would you be embarassed over a game console? You people take this too serious lol.Â

see, i'm an xbox 360 fanatic. i won't buy a ps3 because it's too expensive and i can already play most of all the games it has on the xbox 360. so why bother? to me the ps3 always seemed like it was trying to be an all in one media machine while the xbox 360 was centered on games and gaming. but now, with the launching of these new consoles (x1 and ps4), it seems they went in opposite directions. and that's part of the reason why i don't like the x1 and do like the ps4. and i think that is true of a lot of other people as well. so then i'm thinking to myself "i absolutely won't buy a xbox one. it has everything i don't want and doesn't have anything that i do want (in a gaming console), except the controller, the controller is badass! so then i'm thinking about buying a ps4 and at the same time, the huge fail reveal of the x1 makes me sad to be an xbox 360 owner. and i also feel used and betrayed by microsoft and i think a lot of people feel the same way. so after all these years with 360, it's a big let down. and quite frankly after defending xbox 360 and microsoft for all this time i feel embarrassed, cheap and used. so then i thought about e3 and what if microsoft shows fallout 4, red dead redemption II and mass effect 4 as xbox exclusives? FO3, RDR and ME3 are 3 of my favorite games of all time and if they are xbox exclusives i will pretty much have to buy an x1, even though i pretty much hate it, just so i can play the games i love. so when i walk into a store and everyone is buying a ps4 and not an x1, because they won't buy a console just for 3 games like me and go for the better console, am i really going to shout out, like ron burgundy, "I WANT AN XBOX ONE!" - /awkward! i don't know. i can't see myself doing it. i'll have to sneak in late one night and get one when no one is watching or something. that's how i really feel. abused, ripped off and ashamed of letting microsoft use me (a core gamer) as a life support system for a multimedia machine built for soccer moms...You have to understand that hardcore gamers are a tiny minority.
The vast majority of ppl are casuals who play facebook games, maybe madden or cod, and not much else.
Any platform that depends on hardcore gamers too much is gonna fail.
They have to pander to casuals.
What Kinect is, is essentially a means of getting casuals to subsidize the Xbox platform.
Note how this gen, even tho Playstation had all the "hardcore exclusives" most of em weren't selling well, the best games that came out were all multiplat. To me Mass Effect series by itself was worth 1000 No Ni Kunis, FF13's, and Killzones. GTA IV was worth 1000 God of Wars. Altho yes, Heavy Rain was really cool, Infamous was great, MAG was fun, I can't say bad about the PS3 it's a great system.
Bottom line is, on paper, %99 of games worth playing are multiplats, with the other %1 being "flavor" of a particular system whether it be Halo or Heavy Rain.
It remains to be seen if the PS4 will be a competent platform for multiplats. I believe it will be. And if that's the case, I don't see a need to pay $50/year for XBL when ALL systems can play the games that matter (multiplats.)
i respectfully disagree. long read warning ahead! i believe the reason the xbox 360 sold so well was because it was game centric and was made for hard core gamers in mind. to demonstrate this i bring up the reality of the situation - note that the kinect gimmick was rejected on xbox 360 and was only embraced by casuals and it still didn't sell well while the hardcore gamers bought and played hardcore games that broke record sales. the xbox 360 was game centric and it was one of the reasons why i bought it over ps3 (price and game centric FPS xbox 360 controller to be exact). it catered to the hard core gamers and not like the ps3 which was more of an all in one entertainment movie center. but now they're going in opposite directions. and the results from various polls are overwhelmingly in favor of the game centric ps4 and not the media hub/soccer mom/kinect 2.0 gimmick xbox one. and look at the games that sell the best to keep the system selling and help to keep the dev studios and publishers in business. all the the games that sell tens of millions of copies are always geared towards the hardcore gamers that will buy and play a game for 1 bazillion hours (casual gamers don't buy many games and don't do that). examples - red dead redemption, gta: san andreas, mass effect series, fallout 3 and new vegas, oblivion, skyrim, bf3, cod, halo, gears, forza etc... these game all have one thing common, it's they either have infinite replay value or are so amazingly long, fun, immersive and entertaining that you can't turn them off. you also can't turn them down when faced with buying one of them or buying an AA casual game instead. casual games and gimmicks don't offer that. casual games offer a cheap to produce gimmick to a demographic of people that don't buy a lot of games and consoles. and instead they play games on smartphones and tablets, or maybe a wii which they won't have to upgrade from because they're casual gamers. so you see, my point is that casual gamers aren't even a demographic to market to because they financially won't end up supporting the console and dev studios to keep it alive and are already doing casual gaming (for cheap) on their smartphones and wii. so there is no reason to try and market to them because they'll simply look at the advertisement and go back to playing something like angry birds on their smartphone for $1.99 instead of buying a new console (they don't need) for $300-$500 and new AAA games they won't buy or play. more new smartphones will sell more units this christmas, to casual gamers, than xbox ones will sell to that same demographic. that being said, microsoft should have made 2 consoles. 1 being a tablet (jaguar/kaveri apu made for tablets - which is the xbox one) that plays all 360 games and can hook up to the tv as a console to replace the 360 while keeping it alive (for dirt cheap) to steal a part of the smartphone market they're losing customers to. and then a new true next gen harcore console, with better specs (xbox infinity) and no gimmick kinect 2.0, that has no appeal to anyone and would make the console $100-$200 cheaper. this way they would have kept all the 360 fanatics one over the ps4 people that were looking for next gen (instead of mobile apu platform which both x1 and ps4 consoles are), supplied them a true next gen console (because that's what they're demanding) instead of losing them to the ps4 by releasing a lesser of the same thing. microsoft had a chance to completely dominate the console industry and they just flat out missed it.
