A B.A.M.F. like Altair should at least be able to tread water or jump out of the river, but no, he drowns like a dork. A trained assassin that can't swim.

James Bond, eat your heart out.

I asked my wife the same thing the first time I drowned. Her answer was, "Well, he was born and raised in a desert..." I had to admit that she has a point there, but I still think that at the very least he should be able to doggie paddle a couple of feet to shore...

I was thinking the same thing. A trained assassin that can climb any building, jump from a house, land on a broom stick without falling off or breaking his leg but if the littlest bit of water touches you, you are screwed. The man could probably walk on top of peoples heads and not break a sweat. Oh well, if they make another, maybe they will let him swim

I honestly think that they didn't give him the ability to swim because that would be a whole other huge portion of the game engine that they would have had to develop. Probably didn't have time to. Think about it. They would have had to map out huge portions of the world for underwater swimming, maybe put some objectives like flags down there. They would have to develop Altair's behavior under water. Plus, what would be the incentive to free run around the docks if you could swim? Hopefully this is something they'll add to the next AC. But yeah, it's pretty stupid that he can't swim.

FACT ALtair Cant Swim BEcause ubisoft went through tons of stuff to be historicly acurate as you can tell by that girl telling you in almost every asassins creed video she apears.

And what did the fact show people at ubisoft back then people just couldnt swim (people didnt get the ability to swim tell at least the 1800's) (FAct look it up ubisoft did)

Ubisoft whent through as many things to be historicly acurate as i did in this post to be gramaticly coreect.

True the armor, clothes, and weapons people carried back then would weigh them down in the water, but for someone that can catch a tiny ledge in mid-air and pull himself up should have enough strength to swim. I swam across a lake with boots, jeans, a sweat-shirt, and a jacket on. Sure it was rather difficult, but it can be done.

Honestly, if you paid attention to the news you would know that even BABIES could INSTICTIVELY swim underwater, or at least SURFACE. Okay, I haven't studied the middle-ages at all, but I do know that humans, and Altair should at the very least float. Right? >;]

true but any idiot can at least kick his legs ordog paddle. you dont really have to know how to swim to be able to save yourself from drowning.

Try telling that to the 3,308 people that died in unintentional drownings in 2004. http://0-www.cdc.gov.pugwash.lib.warwick.ac.uk/ncipc/factsheets/drown.htm

It does make sense that he can't swim. Like said before, people just didn't know how back then. Plus, he would have been incredibly weighed down by his clothing and gear.

I've seen people that don't know how to swim get in water over their heads. You can say that any idiot can kick their legs or dog paddle, but that's not what happens. They panic and flail their arms and legs in an attempt to keep their head above water. And every single time they have needed someone to pull them to safety, or they would have drowned.

The simple answer is that he's wearing armour and weapons, which probably weigh 40-50 pounds minimum.

Strap a pair of 25 pound barbell weights onto your back and see how well you can swim.

Good point. You can't be stealthy with your boots sloshing or dripping water on your next kill from above.

Why can't Altair swim? Because swimming would do you no good in this game when your mission is to jump on top of buildings assasinating bad people. It's not important to the gameplay, so why not just let him drown and make an artificial obstacle out of it.

With all that armour, and not the slightest bit of knowledge on how to swim I doubt any of us could. Besides if they added swimming it'd make that harbour assasination really easy. Since there was really only one mission with any noticeable amount of water, is it really a big deal?

Very very wrong

swimming has always been a way to bathe

yes they may not have done it often but it was the most common way as water was hard to move about obviously.

In crowded streets on hot days the place most people went would be to cool down in a nearby river.

Just because they didnt bathe often does not mean they didnt swim or bathe in rivers.

Water has always attracted humans and we have been swimming as far back as recorded history goes.

I appreciate your joke, but there's nothing wrong with your grammar. Your spelling on the other hand... I almost didn't realize you were kidding because the idea that,"people didnt get the ability to swim tell at least the 1800's", is so ridiculous. It is very funny though.
