Wouldn't be a bad idea, but it would depend - if it's done, it's got to be done right. There are a few third person shooters that are really horrible with camera control/aiming, or the player model just looks downright ugly. Gears of War pulls it off nicely, so do several other games.

It's not an idea I'm totally against, but if someone's going to put out a bad apple, then no thanks. I'd rather have a bad FIRST person shooter instead.

Well, speaking of TPS's, I just bought The Club and it's a blast, but the turning response can be slow. The back story is awesome, but unfortunately it's not really incorporated in the game. It's a great multiplayer game!

Yea, I can see what your talking about, It is harder to make a 3rd Person Shooter, Because you got to get the camera controls almost perfect.

Personally I don't like many 3rd person shooters. GoW was the main exception for me. Usually being able to see who your controlling takes away from the experience, I like to believe that I'm the one there, not the character.

I agree, it takes a really good dev. team to make decent tps. That said, Gears showed it can be done, and done well. I am really curious to see how Boune Identity turns out, it looks promising.

Ghost Reacon 2 was the best TPF in my mind great online play the speed and turning was perfect. Glitching ended up shorting the online play life for the game. I havent played either GRAW though because I dont like auto-aim crap like what COD4 has it makes it way to easy to kill people and not much skill is involved

Yeah, I'm renting The Club now and it's great fun. I would love to see some third person shooters incorporate some of what The Club does into their game. The online is a bunch of fun.

I don't think there's any fundamental advantage to a third-person shooter over other kinds of games I like... It would totally depend on the quality of the releases. But pretty much unless it can outdo Gears, I wouldn't be interested - GoW fits that niche nicely and I have too many other shooters to play already.

Okay, well the thing with the third person shooters is that only a few developers can make them right...

I don't mind more, it would be a breath of fresh air, but they would have to be very careful with how they're made. I.E., gears, ghost recon, etc.

Others here have mirrored my thoughts on this subject. Whether a shooter is executed through a first or third person perspective is largely irrelevant to the quality of the gameplay.

If you did a review of a third person shooter, you could describe it as a TPS Report. Lumbergh can find out what you think of Gears of War; you might have to play on Saturday.

Yeah i have always felt that, there are some very good third person shooters out there like Max Payne which i hope but doubt they will make a new one and also Crackdown i found to be suprisingly good.

Gears did it flawlessly. I know Uncharted is not a 360 game, but the shooting mechanics were awesome and up to par with Gears. Those are really the only 2 that I can think of for next-gen consoles. Kinda sad when you think about it. How many next-gen FPS are there....I would say close to 50, maybe more. Like others said....it really takes good camera movement and shooting mechanics to make a good TPS.

Most definitely. I loved Ghost Recon so I'd love to see more tactically third person shooters like that.

Isn't everything over the shoulder in Gears of War though?

Once you start thinking about it, I think GeOW wouldn't be very good as a FPS.
