I think they are stupid and lame but we can't do anything about it so bring 'em on, I suppose. And last I remember you could still have a gamerpic so all is not lost.
I think the avatars could be really nice if microsoft goes in the right direction with them.
For example with the new gears of wars comming out... if you beat the game on insane you can unlock a marcus fenix avatar exclusive only to those have beat the game... Or perhaps you don't have to go that far ya know... even tho that would be cool. Maybe if a player were to get an achievement in gears 2 they would unlock a gears uniform or a lancer for your avatar or something exclusive to that game and only to someone who has unlocked that acheivement.. And then not only that but you could customize your unlockable so that whoever else unlocks the achievement won't have the exact same thing as you. If something like that was done then I think it would be a nice and subtle way of showing people what games you are interested in... And maybe, sticking with the whole gears theme, there could be little animations with the props like your avatar could rev the chainsaw and give a chuckle or shoot confetti in the air and and catch some in his/her open-hand and and smile... I think the avatars are cool I just hope they utilize the potential of the concept.

Just read in gameinformer that some companies wanted to put unlockable weapons for avatars via achievments but MS said no way so that seems to be out. Maybe has something to do with little kids holding guns probably. lol
I personally dont like the avatar idea but if it makes MS more money then why not.
Well it was more of a "for instance if anything". But while we're on the subject, I don't see why microsoft has any qualms about that when they endorse shoot-em-up games. I guess it's fine to watch realistic world war 2 blood baths and sci fi horror unfold in full graphical detail just as long as it's not in the form of an avatar holding gun that shoots confetti.. lol... No but honestly I understand why that would want to shy away from that.. But the staying away from the guns props there's millions of other possiblities like cog tags the avatars could wear or battle scars you can give your avatar and again these specific scars would be someting identifiable only to the gears unlocable... Sorry I'm talking a lot about gears but I don't own a lot of other games and I can't wait for gears 2 Wooot!!!

As long as i can keep my theme and gamer pic then im ok with it. I realize there will be a new interface but i still want them to be used in a significant way. I have my dashboard just the way i like it. Helps too if they arent as lame as the Miis.
I think the reason that MS is implementing the avatar system is twofold: The first is to make more money. Of course the coolest clothes ect. for your avatar will come at a carefully selected amount of MS points. The second reason, as we all know is to cater to the less hardcore.
I'm a little on the fence with respect to the avatars. I think they could be cool if they implemented the system properly. As noted above by one insightful user, there is a lot of cool things that could be done with this system. Perhaps finishing a game with all of the achievements would entitle you to a particular uniform or something.
At any rate, we all love our 360s with or without the avatar system. The fact that the old dashboard is a mere guide button push away seems to suggest that MS is trying to please all of its users while trying to recruit new users from the family/Wii market. We will have to wait and see how cool it is when the fall update occurs. My only hope is that the coolest of avatar clothes would be EARNED and not purchased though I think we all know that this won't be the case.
during E3 instead of showing the new game from Bungie they cut it out,kept talking about avatars. id rather see the new game instead of micosoft go soft and limp with a wii ripoff.
I really don't have an opinion on the avatars because it won't effect my gameplay at all. Not to concerned with how the dashboard looks. Although I thought the gameshow with all the avatars looked pretty cool.
My girlfriend seems half way interested in messing with it, but for myself I could care less. Kind of hard to even think about that when you got games like this releasing, and these are only a portion of whats coming.

Definitely agree with this. Unless the avatar is implemented in some invasive fashion (you have to look at just it before you can do anything else), there's really no reason to get upset about it. It's just more fluff to add to the XBL features.
Personally, I like the idea, but that's because I like just about any chance I have at customizing things!
I'm gonna wait to see. It does seem childish, but i'm curious to see if they can improve on what they did with the wii avatars. I'm more interested in the other new features that will be included in the fall update.
Lame. I don't see how it would really affect how I play my games. I figure they're more for socializing, but I don't really do my socializing through a game console.
I think it's actually a great idea. Despite the critizism about the new update being a Mii rip-off, it's a great step for the 360 and will certainly entertain 360 owners.
meh, I don't REALLY care too much. I mean, they have a lot of great ideas, and that's awesome. but I'm just worried about playing games and having fun :D
