This topic comes up often and yet i still feel that nothing this gen can compare to NG2 on its hardest difficulty. There is nothing that even comes close.
Risen is an absolute hard, hard, hard game. I played on Normal and it was so outlandishly hard...I am thinking about playing on HARD but will not be surprised if i give up. For RPG fanatics, Risen is a must try game.
I think the hardest is Lost Planet 1 on extreme.I only tried it for a while but besides the tougher enemies you have the ridiculously fast draining T eng and thats what really sucks the fun out of it.Never played 2.
MW2 is fairly easy, I beat it twice on veteran + all special ops by myself on veteran several times. Same goes for Black Ops. CoD4 is hella hard on vet. WaW is by far the hardest shooter I played on the highest setting, simply because of how mind boggingly cheap it is, with the constant spawns and endless grenade spamming. Kane & Lynch 2 was also really hard on Extreme (you often die in 1 hit, even through cover)

im playing cod 4 on vet and it is pretty hard I'm replaying it on veteran and some sections are insane

COD4 on hard is easy besides the stage "No fighting in the war room". Your def right about WAW being cheap though. On vet its a never ending grenade shower.
Some of the CoDs on vet are pretty hard, but I heard that FEAR on the hardest difficulty was next to impossible.

I played COD black ops on the vet difficult yet thought it was lacking a little bit in the difficult stakes. Meaning I didn't think it was difficult enough.

Man you ain't kidding. I couldn't and didn't even want to finish it. I love NG but NG2 was bull. It frustrated me so bad I felt like punching a hole through my tv, then setting the game on fire...like a boss.

halo reach wasnt that hard, i actually finished it on legendary on my own which was surprising, and mw2 but mw2 has the easiest of all the cod campaigns. im struggling with black ops, khe sahn is a B****. dead space 2 sounds like it has a difficult hardcore mode. 3 saves the entire game......umm wtf? fallout new vegas comes to mind, that game is hard anyway. id have to say ng2 though, i haven even finished it on acolyte :L
Contra on XBLA, without the Konami code. Of course that would be out classed in difficulty if Tecmo would ever get off their a**** and get Ninja Gaiden onto XBLA...
Oh and since those games don't actually have difficulty settings I just think of the games as already on hardcore mode.

new vegas is super hard I find it rather easy. you probly have a suped up character
Does Doom 2 on XBLA have the Nightmare difficulty that has the infinitely re spawning enemies? Because if so than that would be probably one of the hardest.

I see what you mean but the game's is mainly filled with cheap death, didnt the game developper once apologized for the cheap difficulty at time?
Anyway, apparently Dead Space 2 hardcore mode makes dead space 1 impossible difficulty a cakewalk
Killzone 2 - I know it's a playstation 3 game, but on Legendary, you don't have any crosshairs and you die in one bullet, it's insane !

You don't die with one bullet, but I think what makes Killzone 2 really hard on Elite difficulty are the stiff controls and endlessly respawning enemies that spam grenades (I once found a safe spot where the enemies couldn't reach me and watched for 5 minutes as a single Helgast kept throwing grenade after grenade... I wish I recorded that)
