Anyone agree with the article about the 360 having a ten year life cycle? I personally don't think so as Microsoft has screwed up on teh 360 hardware so bad, some people are afraid to buy one now. Also, the amount of storage on the discs could be an issue.

I wish; the time I finally get around to enjoying me 360 to it's fullest, a new console will most likely be announced. So yeah, let's hope for a 10 year life cycle because this 5 year crap is bs.

After 10 years the console would be so outdated, imagine if the last console you got was 1999 and there was no new one until next year.

True True, but like Cool Baller said, 7 years would be good, maybe 8. Some people don't buy there console until like 3 years after it's released, which gives them only 2 years to enjoy something that I do'nt know, gets out of style you may say.

The 360 is already showing its age, not to mention the legendary dependability issues. I think 5-7 years is the sweet spot for a console's life span. I don't mind paying $400 every 5 years or so to take advantage of the newest technology. I pay much more to keep my computers upgraded.

i dont know how 360 is showing its age when all multi platform games generally look better on the 360 not to mention the fact that 360s stop having alot of problems and i can speak i had problems with my console for the first 8 months of ownership but ever since i got my 3rd one back in jan 07 it been working great.the fact that 360s had a failure rate so high is because ppl probably didnt have good ventalation once i changed my 360s position and location i havent had a single problem.

When devlopers have to tweak a game to run at lower-than HD resolutions to get a decent frame rate, that's not a promising sign of longevity. Halo 3 runs at 640p and CoD4 runs at 600p. Don't get me wrong, they still look good. But it is a sign that developers have already pushed the hardware to its limits and must make compromises.

Halo 3 ran 2x640p. 10 years is too long. Even 4 would be good. $400/4=$100/year. Games are $60 each. They are probably already working on the 360's successor. Plus why not carry over gamerscore.

Next Gen console Fidelity both in Graphics and Software have reached the point where i wouldnt mind sticking with my 360 for 8-10 years, its just that good and... this is comming from mainly a PC gamer who has a fairly High end RIG.

Tecnology evolves far to quickly for a ten year lifespan on consoles. Five years is perfect, but even then PC technology is quite a bit ahead.

Because PS3 was released so late, I think we'll see a longer lifespan for the X360

m$ wont scew there next system like the 360. all the repairs is cost them nearly 5 billion dollors and who in hell wanna loss that amount of cash? even if you own like 70 bill

but ya i thin 5-6 year per system is a good lenth so you can get upgrade softwear and hardwear just like computers if you play games run softwear ( not going on the internet to sites like gamespot) you need to update your computer every few years so yoiu can run the newest stuff

Its a double edged sword. Because you have the PS3 which developers are still struggling to figure out how to push that machine to its full potential. By the time they get the Ps3 rockin by the end of this year it will probably be 2 or 3 years and you will have a new released console by microsoft that trumps the PS3. The most bullet proof console of all time has to be the SNES. Top loading cartridge, blow on game, lets play. I do agree with the other posters comment that they appear to be minimizing graphical display in some games to get a better game rate. Cough MLB2k8. Hopefully this is just a hiccup for the 360 and we will see games played in their meant to be HD resolution with the highest frame rate possible.

I agree to some extent but you have to remember all the action that is taking place on that screen at one time in Halo and COD. I think this is more of developer issue that the machine itself. They are probably learning more everyday about the 360 and PS3 but they have to get to a point where they release a game to the best of their ability for the players.

yeah the PS2 is going strong. I should not have sold mine and regret it. I only had to open it once to clean the lens and realign it other than that it was bulletproof

10 years? Right...

My 360 didn't last 10 months before having to send it in because of hardware failure.

With 120+ million units sold worldwide, I wouldn't be surprised. There are a lot of customers who are still very content. Given the tempermental nature of the 360, I've come to apprecitate the durability of my PS2 more and more. I even booted it up this week to play some Gran Turismo 4. Definitley a legendary system.

I'm sure your gamerscore will carry over to the next system. People would get a little crazy if it didn't.

Personally, I don't mind buying new consoles every 5 years. The consoles can have a 10 year cycle, but I hope they come out with a new one in 5. :)

Well, the article does bring some valid sounding evidence.

Im not sure about ten years, but when I noticed the fact that the Wii and 360 had really started to almost out grow the install base of their predaccesors I started to beleive this generation might last a little longer than the last. Both Nintendo and Microsoft have a much larger market share than they did last time and looking and Sony's strategy and future releases they should end up in a very nice position by the end of the year. It looks like gaming will be much more profitable this time around for everyone and gaming has got much bigger. Obviously, these console will be making money for along time and it'll be a while before anyone will want to switch out in favor for somthing else.

If it is 10-year lifecycle as in Playstation then a new console should appear around year 7. Then for 3 years it gets the lowest quality games imaginable since nobody wants to put any real money into making games for it because they can't afford to support two platforms.
