So today I go to play my Xbox 360 and find that X, Y and B are all sticking really bad and reek of alcohol. Go fiqures, last night I gave it to my mate to borrow. Last time I do that.

Anyway, firstly how do I pull the controller apart? I thought a normal screw driver would've done that, but I got no idea whats needed there. Secondly, what then? Is there a way to clean the buttons from the bottom / sides or is my controller pretty much screwed?

Whats that supposed to mean?

Also, just read somewhere else a Phillips does it? What size? I can't seem to get it to work, there's like a round thing in the middle of it.

It's just funny, on a video game forum. It's never, I split coke or lemonade. It's "I spilt an acolholic beverage on my controller"

Classic.

So anyone gonna answer the question? I can't get the bottom two screws out, and I'm not using the right screw driver.

It says use a phillips, but a phillips doesn't fit!

I'm thinking about doing the same, I think I spilled some sprite on my A-button by mistake =\

well, find a hexagon-shaped head, one that doesn't have the centre. Go to a hardware store, and bring your controller. Find someone that can help you find one. Or at least ask what they would recommend, I don't think there are hexagon-shaped heads :P

I actually have a hexagon shaped head, but I'm now thinking I should break the pin.

Why is this site

Saying use a phillips?

Yea, that's why I'm now considering breaking it off, but then without that center pin it still doesn't make it a phillips does it?

Take the batteries out of the controller. Take the controller and run a LITTLE bit of water over the affected buttons. DO NOT put the batteries back in the controller. Keep the controller turned upside down over a towel/rag for 8-10 hours to ENSURE all the water gets out. Put the batteries back in, your good to go. Water and electric currents dont mix in electronics, thats why you take the batteries out.

Before you tear the controller apart try rubbing a cotton swab dipped in denatured alcohol around the button. It SHOULD get rid of the sticky gunk around the base of the button. Granted this only works if you actually have denatured alcohol lying around the house. The other option is to find a torx screwdriver to take your controller apart. Hope my 2 cents helps.:D

Beer, lol. Beer wouldn't make the buttons sticky, unless it was malt liquor maybe. Anyway, I wager you spilled your capri sun pouch of fruit punch on your controller:lol: Either way, take the whole thing apart and clean everything, much easier then you would think, I took mine apart for the exact same reason. Guide button sticky from some soda or what not.

I think you have to use a Torx screw driver. I know you needed that for the Original Xbox.

@-Silent--Death-:This is a very simple fix, drop and/or rub rubbing alcohol on the affected buttons, this should free them up. Just use a little though.

It is a Torx bit you need (the type needed for the screw with the pin is also referred to as a "security Torx"). Breaking the pin won't hurt anything, it'll just allow either style Torx bit to be used... Leaving the pin will require the security Torx bit.

I forget the size you'll need.

You can get them online for a few dollars. If you have a Harbor Freight near you then you can get a whole set cheap.

Keep in mind that taking it apart will void any warranty and bigger game stores like GameStop will not take them on trade once opened. They will know it's been opened due to one of the screws being behind a decal.

Try the alcohol trick and toothbrush thing first.., if that works you'll keep it's trade value intact (and any warranty).
