So I'm getting my first XBOX and I'm not sure whether to get the old Elite or the New "Slim." First off I'm not getting Kinect so that doesn't matter and neither does harddrive size becuase 120 is enough for me. I would without a doubt get the new one if I knew it wouldn't have issues but since it only has a one year warrenty vs. a 3 year warrenty I'm not sure. Any thoughts. Is the old Elite a safer bet?

Just to be safe and sure you should invest your money in the slim in my opinion.

Well, the "slim" has a HUGE hole for a fan on the top of it, so that might be a safety thing for you. I'd say keep it Vertical then. But as a plus, the "slim" has a 250 GB HDD and built in wifi, and it's supposedly a lot quiter. So I'd say get the new 360.

I'd say slim because of built in wi-fi and the looks. You'll want wifi eventually.

I'd say slim only if you need Wi-Fi. Other than that, it seems like you'd be set with an Elite

I'll sell you my Elite for $175, so I can get the new 360. :P

Just kidding. I have an Elite and I'm trading it in for the new 360. This gen isn't over yet so extra hdd space is always nice, I wanted a quieter console, and a fresh warranty since mine has been over. I haven't really seen any real problems with the new 360s yet.

Get an Elite for $249 and throw that extra $50 at a game or second controller. You could even get a few used games for $50. Make sure it's a Jasper Elite though. Even though some Jasper models made it out in late 2008, anything manufactured after Feb 2009 is a safe bet. Just check the back of the system through the little barcode window on the box and if you see a "12,1A" it's a Jasper unit.

I would get the newer one. If any issues occur Microsoft will extend the warranty but they seem confident if they are giving one year warranties.

Get the new one. It looks slick and as some of us suggested you will get better warranty options...

Go for the new one. The only reason I won't be getting the new model is because I already own an Elite, as much as I would like one. For a first Xbox an Elite would be a waste of time when the 'Slim' is new, shiny, and quite cheap.

only $50 more for a bigger hard drive, quieter machine, best wifi in a console and a smaller design...of course. the use of memory cards are being phased out for USB. the new mode has no slots for memory cards.

On paper it looks much better then the first but my only is issue is if It might break after a month or two. Im only basing this of reviews i've read and such so if people have them and they aren't breaking then its the new slim for me.

I have had and 360 since launch, I have had 8 xboxs rrod on me. I worry about that too, I figure mine still works now no need to replace it, but I do want a new one. I will wait until the first couple of batches out to pick one up.

Ya, I mean you seam to have had very bad luck but nonetheless, the only thing keeping me is the 3 year vs. 1 year warrenty.

Definitely get the new one. It has built-in wifi and it's quieter. Not to mention the fact that it's prettier too haha. :P

Some people don't understand the issue here, the problem is the other one has 3 years warranty, and the slim has 1 year warranty.

Not necessarily. I mean, there are better reasons he should choose one over the other aside from the fact that one warranty outlasts the other.

I don't know why anyone would actually purchase an older Xbox 360 with the Slim currently out. I think you should definitely get the Slim, it's just a better investment and a better buy. Either way enjoy your new Xbox 360 bro.

Haha no thanks. Plus I finally got bored with MW2 on PC after having it from launch so I don't think I'm gonna want to play it anymore.

Depends where you live and what deal you can find, but if there was ever a time to invest in a elite it would be now.I just bought one today ,much better in terms of value than the newer 360 s coming out in two weeks here in the uk.
