My neighbor purchased a broken 360 off EBAY a couple of weeks back, he was going to try and fix it himself but has not yet gotten around to trying to fix it. When I found out about today's warranty extension, I called him to see if he wanted to sell it to me and what was wrong with it. According to him, it indeed has the 3 Red Lights issue and also he has not opened it or messed with anything internal. The biggest drawback is that it does not have a hard-drive, or controller. Do you think it's worth buying it off of him for $120?

I would say you shouldn't buy one, but considering how Microsoft will fix broken 360s for free now...

Yeah, that's what I'm figuring. If I can get a new/refurbished 360 for $120, I can buy a refurbished 20gig HD from Ebgames for $80 and a new wireless controller for $50 so that comes out to $250 for 360 with a 20gig HD.

I wouldn't do it because if he opened up the Xbox then he voided the warranty already.

That seems like too much of a hassel just to save a couple of bucks.I think you can get all that on ebay for $200 or less for a broken down consoleand maybe with some games too.

According to him, he hasn't opened it and it still has the MS seal on it.

Oh ok. I would still check for it first before I made any transaction.

Just as Tree06 said, I would still check for it before I paid, and if it satisfies me, I would buy it because of the new warranty :)

I did tell him, that's actually what I really called him about, to tell him about it, but he didn't seem excited so I offered to buy it off of him. He's not even a gamer, the reason he got the 360 in the first place because he's one of those people that never commits to anything and is always jumping in and out of hobbies or activities.

Oh, well in that case, go for it, if everything checks out.

Seriously. Bought of ebay. You have no idea if the console serial number was banned from XBL forever.

9/10 times that probably wouldn't happen.
