Well...it finally happened. After having my 360 since December of '05....if finally kicked the bucket. RIP. Can someone please give me a quick and easy answer. How do I get my 360 Arcade games and game save data back once I buy a new 360? Is it possible?

Whatever storage device you saved your things on, simply attach it to your new 360. As for previously purchased items that you don't currently have downloaded, they can be downloaded again for free as long as you are using the same profile. Sorry about your 360 dying. Sucks it's been over three years too.

You can't get a repair? It'd probably be cheaper. Anyway, if you need to transfer your rights data to your new console you just use this https://live.xbox.com/signup/UIPStartPage.aspx?appid=ConsoleLicenseTransfer

Your saved game data and game content on your hard drive remains on your hard drive.

If I decide to upgrade to the Elite, I would need the Hard Drive Transfer Kit, right? Can I still get one for free from Microsoft? I've dug through their site about this over and over and I can't find where it says "order kit" or "request kit". Do I need to call them to get one? Will I need to have purchased an Elite ahead of timeto provide old and new serial #'s before they'll send me a free kit?

He's had the Xbox since '05.

That's 4 years.
I highly doubt his warranty will cover a repair. He'll have to pay.

Well that's no good ...

Anyway, I think the Data Migration Kit is only available (for free) for Europe, Middle East, and Afirca -- if you live elsewhere (eg: North America), you may need to pay. You can use this form, and can get more information here (ONLY if you're in the previously mentioned areas). If anything, give them a call.

PS: You may be able to get your console fixed for free. By talking to a manager, and stating your support/loyalty along with your frustration, they may cave in.
