It's good to see that many of your freezing problems have been solved or that you have found a temporary solution. I tried putting my psu on an open box as pictured and put my 360 on another box, so that it sits up off the table about 2 inches (laying flat of course). Neither of these two fixes have worked for my system.

I spent 4 hours on hold (not all together) on 4 seperate calls to MS. They are sending me a box so that I can send my 360 in for repair. In the mean time, does anyone have any suggestions of what else I can try?

I went over to a friend's place last night, he has a 360 too. It was nice to see how the machine should be running and at the same time it was disappointing because mine doesn't work.

I haven't even turned my 360 on today, probably will do so as I can play for about 20 minutes before it freezes, but the thrill of having a new system is gone for now.

Well, your freezing problem is probably not due to overheating. It sprobably a defect...I dont know anything you could do.

Thanks, guess I just have to wait for that box to come and then send the system in. Very disappointing.

I could imagine....I had to do the same with ipods....twice.

I really doubt a patch would fix what is wrong with my system.  I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the hardware.  I just hope MS sends me a new system, but I doubt that too.  But I'm in it for the long haul, not going to return mine, I know it will work, eventually.

Well I just started playing PDZ today and guess what... It froze!  This is getting VERY annoying.  It looks like my console isnt overheating anymore, since all games work now except PDZ.  Just called MS tech support and they are sending me a box to ship my 360 to them.  The lady said they will ship me a new system within 10 days of me sending it to them.  I am glad this worked for some people, but my system has more problems than just overheating.

PGR3 and CoD2 work perfect for me, just PDZ freezes.  The lady on tech support told me that a lot of people have been complaining about PDZ freezing.

PDZ freezes up the most, Madden and Need for Speed both freeze, but not as much.

Wow, Amazing, I just finished my first whole game without freezing.  Just played a game of Madden all the way through.  I bet it'll freeze as soon as I get back to gaming.    That fan for the power brick looks like a good idea, bet it'll sell like hotcakes.

I don't know, I haven't had that problem.  My console has just frozen during games because of overheating.  If that problem is also caused by overheating it could be fixed by this.

The best way to get rid of overheating is to just buy a small cheap fan and put it so that it blows air behind the 360 and over the power unit.  All of th current gen consoles use like only 100 watts of power, the new ones use probobly 250+, this is a huge increase in heat output.

REMEMBER! heat is being generated not only in the converter box, but also in the 360 itself, to fix that it blows the hot air out, but if there is no air flow around the console the temperature rises until it overheats and shuts down.

This is not really a problem with Microsoft, it is a problem with the gamers, none of us have ever had this type of problem becuase none of the consoles have ever used this much power.

stops the heat being rebounded from the ground to back to the power block

This actually IS a problem with Microsoft.  Why should I have to buy a fan for the $400+ system because it keeps overheating?  If the fan is a necessary piece of equipment, it should have been included in the box.  If they're trying to "cut costs", then they could at least make the system work properly in the process.

It's pathetically sad that individuals have to resort to putting parts of the $400 piece of equipment on a box... Ah well. Obviously, I'd do the same. With that said, I'm thinking that so long as you keep both the 360 and it's components off the floor and in an open area--ie, not shoved into your entertainment center that has no air circulation or perched on top of your TV--everything should run fine.

No problems for me either.  I have my powerbrick sitting on carpet behind my entertainment center.  Played in segments of about 3 hours...watched movies via the Media Center Edition connection for about 4 hours.  Good luck, guys!

How about mounting some feet on the PSU to get it of the ground? A girl I know used to have LEGO bricks in each corner of her Amiga 1200 040 to keep it cool.

Well, if all the problems aren't fixed by this, it means a more a serious error: that the GPU and CPU are either unstable or have improper cooling. GPU crashes due to heat usually cause artifacting and glitches in the game. CPU crashes, however, usually register themselves as a clean "screen-lockup." Which of these types of cashes do you guys see even after you suspend the brick?
