When the 360 came out I was really upset about not being able to use an original Xbox controller, but since I got the 360 controller in my hands I haven't looked back cause it's the greatest controller ever. Perfect size, new LT and RT buttons that feel better than the PS3 controllers L2/R2, the guide button. The only thing I wish they kept with the 360 remote that was on the Controller S was the start and back buttons on the lower left corner. That way you wouldn't have to take your hands off of the A,B,X and Y buttons and risk getting attacked by an enemy to move your finger to click the start button. The lower left corner was a different place to put it and it worked and felt the best there.

the original xbox controller does not have a xbox 360 guide button, therefore it won't work no matter what cord you use. all 360 appliances have the guide button and the guide button is needed for the 360 to recognize any appliance.

I have done it and it works, very well. I used a usb cable and an xbox cord extension cable. You just open them both up and match up the coloured wires, except for the yellow xbox one since usb doesnt have a yellow cable, that one just connects to nothing. The hardest thing to find is the driver and I'm sorry but I don't remember what the one I used was called right now. Also, this only works with legit MS controllers, I had a knockoff one that wasn't recognized by the driver.

The xbox just uses a modified form of usb.

i tried this and but all that happened was that it got a little hot and i could kinda smell a burning smell and my xbox froze. One of the problems is that the wires dont match up. theres an extra yellow wire in the controller and just a plain wire with no insulating rubber around it. Im not sure if it will ever work. but it was worth a try

It works, you need to disable signed driver enforcement though, it shouldn't be for the average game user.
