Yeah, laser burns suck, usually the xbox needs to be knocked for this this happen. Never heard of it happening without any contact.
Nonetheless, if you're in the UK, I know Game repairs the disk for £3 :)

Sometimes if you push the tray in instead of pressing the button it will scratch. I still don't know why Microsoft didn't repair the disk tray the second they found out it was faulty on all models.

Can I suggest that you install games to your HDD that you plan on playing often. This reduces the amount of seeking the lazer does. This prolongs the life of the system by having the system's lazer not moving as often, and keeps the disc from also having issues if it is scratched. This can also prevent you from needing to repair a scratched disc because the system only needs to read the outer boot layer to confirm that you have it. If I am going to play a game through, I typically install it, play through it until I am finished, and uninstall it after. The only game I have installed and haven't removed from the HDD is Black Ops, and the same will be done with Modern Warfare 3, I play them a lot and for the entire year through. This is a great feature of the 360 that I don't think people use enough.

Now only if they had a muti-tray option so I wouldn't have to get off the couch, or tell my son to go change the game! LOL! Seriously though, I thought about adding a 6-12 disc changer and modding it to work, that would be legit.

install the games before you play,

Tc it is also a good thing that the game cost about 5 bucks now, i guess a posotive way to look at it, will not cost you an arm and a leg to replace the game

My xbox did that too, with MW2, then I bought the game again and guess what scratched again. So I gave up on playing it on my 360 and bought it for the ps3.

Strangest thing
