But at what cost can you keep playing these rehashes? Halo 4 was unimpressive and not only could 343i done better elsewhere but Bungie could have still benn around too without the PS4 getting the Destiny treatment. Then you have Black Tusk who I was absolutely stoked about until finding out they are being wasted on a generic Gears of War. I say generic because nobody can make a Epic Games like Epic games regardless of how good the studio is .
Keep in mind that there was a time when these games were a risk as well and if yesterday's Microsoft was anything like today's Microsoft, these games may have never been made to begin with.
You say rehashes, I say let me use my own judgment. I enjoyed every Halo game I've played so far. I have not played Halo 4 yet, or 2, but a couple of coworkers of mine said they were also both great, so I will take their words for it. I also enjoyed Halo Wars, and I LOVED Halo 3 ODST. I thought Reach was pretty good. Even though a million and freakin one people on the "me, me, me!" Internet complained about them.
Fact of the matter is, I freaking love Halo. I have enjoyed all of them, I was never disappointed by them. When you find a game series like that, it's rare. I like the story, the gameplay, the campaign, the multiplayer, the skulls, all of the intricate little extras that go into making each new Halo game something a bit different than the last one. And you know what? I freaking want more! And I'm sure you can't really deny that most gamers want more of something they already love - just look at all of the Nintendo fanboys and gals going nuts over more Zelda and Smash Bros. - I really don't blame them, if they loved all of the previous ones then they will also probably really like the new ones, too.
More Crackdown, freakin yeah! Best open-world game ever, far as I'm concerned. It's been about a decade since the first one came out (let's pretend 2 didn't happen sorta), I'd say it's time for a new one. I don't give a crap about Gears of War, never did. I even had the first two for a while and really didn't see what the big deal is, but I guess it's just not my game.
343 is doing fine. Bungie is a good team, and they're good to their fans, but if you ask me they're highly overrated. Destiny, I haven't played the alpha or anything, but I really don't have much desire to play that game at all tbh. But then, maybe it's not necessarily aimed at me.
Everyone buys consoles, not just for new IPs, which are a gamble... But also for guaranteed fun. For sequels to established favorites.
If you ask me, Microsoft is doing a lot to make the One more appealing. They already bent over freakin backwards when we complained that their console was too strict, and changed their policies. They made Kinect optional. They finally, and rightly so, made it so that you don't need Gold in order just to watch freakin Netflix on your console.
They snatched up Sunset Overdrive and Ori and the Blind Forest. They'll have Cuphead! They are taking Fable in some new directions with Legends. They got the original team back together to make Crackdown 3. They're reviving Phantom Dust, which was essentially a cult favorite IP on the Xbox. They got Platinum Games to even start working on Scalebound for the One, which could attract some Japanese fans. They're building off of the success of Alan Wake with Quantum Break, which will coincide with a TV show. And they're doing plenty fine by Halo, as should be. Really I could go deeper with this - they got Super Time Force, they had PVZ Garden Warfare before anyone... And they got Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad, without argument the best. show. ever. made., to do a commercial for the XBO.
And their E3 was all about the games. Compare that to the hypocrites (Sony), who spent most of their E3 taking shots at Microsoft and talking about new services and streaming.
