Mass Effect not even nominated for best X360 game...

I know that Mass Effect only got an 8.5 from GS, but they piss me off even more when it isn't even nominated for best Xbox 360 game. And it obviously isn't nominated for GOTY. Thanks to Kevin VanOrd, it's not getting the credit it deserves. I mean, exactly, who cares if the frame-rate gets somewhat ugly in a few parts of the game? Mass Effect shouldn't be bashed that much simply for that reason, and it's one of the most replayable and best games I've ever played.

How many of you here agree that GS likes to simplypiss us off now-of-days by events such as Cnet firing Jeff and now them not nominated Mass Effect for GOTY, and not even for best X360 game because Kevin gave it an 8.5? This could be the end of me trusting this site's reviews and yearly award events.

I don't need ME to win an award to know it's THE best game I have played on 360 so far. Now that is purely my own opinion, but it is the one game that will notbe traded in anytime soon.

i'm playing it now. it's greta, but there some really seriously irritating issues:

- LOADING TIMES..: there are too many

- dialogues: too many times there are different choicers, but the same answers.

- Texture pop-in.... : do i have to explain?... sometimes ten seconds...

- Graphics can be breathtaking to downright ugly.

- framerate issues.

- no tutorial. you find out what everything means after a long while...

- planets are not accessable... just a few.

so yeah, it's great, but nominating it as GOTY would be sending out a wrong signal to developers imo.

Thats horrible...... Its easily the best singleplayer game of the year.. not only on the 360 but on any system.

How so? If anything its sending the right signal to developers... telling them to BE ORIGINAL and to bring new things to the table with videogames.

So many games are just re-hashes of other games, while mass effect is something new, amazing and revolutionary.

Sure it has a FEW problems, but in no way should that take away from all the things it does AMAZING.

Just because you dont like a certain type of game doesnt mean its not simply amazing.

Mass Effect is 100000 times better then rock band and Halo3. The other games are arguable. But Rockband is a copy of guitar hero and isnt very innovative.

I know, I'm just saying I don't like the genre so I would like the other games better. It probably is an awesome game, I just probably wouldn't enjoy it as much as others.

Generic Shooter 3 - Check

Borza - Check

Call Of Doodie - Check

It's a real shame that 2 games with next to no single player (cod 4, halo 3) are nominated based entirely on hype, a set of old games (Orange Box), an overrated racer which I wouldn't even name the top racer of the year (forza), and a freakin clone game (rock band) are considered better than a true acheivement in gaming (Mass Effect).

Realistically, gamespot needs to hire reviewers that aren't so freakin stuck on boring FPS, and actually will give a sniff of a chance to other genres....

I hate fps, they are all the same, pretty graphics don't change the game play.

I played through Mass Effect twice and loved it but it is definitely not game of the year material. With the glaring AI issues,framerate drops, and repetitive environments it just cant hold up to games like Mario Galaxy and Bioshock in my opinion. It should be in the best RPG category at least.mrb45

That is a pretty lame argument man....Mass Effect is a great game but if you compare it to pretty much any of the titiles up on that lise for GOTY it still wouldn't win (except against Forza). But to say that GS is just trying to pis us off and using management examples is just pointless. GS company management has nothing to do with video ames or anything else that concerns the consumers as this site.

As for the 8.5 review, this is GS Best and the Worst Awards and not yours, so why would they go against their own ratings and pick a game that got rated lower then the rest of the games on that list. Choosing Mass Effect would be hypocritial to GS and unfair to the games that where deemed AAA on this website.

So if you want to see Mass Effect win GOTY so bad go make your own website and have your own award show.

True Mass Effect was Great and it was kin of messed up how it got points knocked off for minor glitches, but then again the game wasn't that fun really. I played it so I could talk with people and continue the storyline. Combat really wasn't that fun, but then again, thats my opinion

Yes Orange box is just a bunch of old games. OOPS there 3 new ones my bad. Mass effect is great but it isjust graws combat in another bioware game. Its still should be nominated though. Funny names but it just looks like u hate fps's for no good reason.

it was a fun game but besides getting a few achievements i missed i didnt really feel like playing it again-and the kicker is that i have always wanted a game like this...i guess Elder Scrolls has SPOILED me:D good thing too.

but honestly i thought it would have aleast got nominated..i guess part of me knew it was going to be Bioshock.

Rock Band is made by the people who CREATED Guitar Hero... and it does it better than Guitar Hero ever did.

I finished Mass Effect and almostevery side quest last weekend. The game was a Disappointment in Technical Termsand I am probably one ofthe biggest Bioware fans on this forum from back in the good old days of Baldur's Gate when they created the Infinity Engine

Reasons why it cannot be GOTY

For so Many years in Development it has

• Horrible AI - An enemy hides behind a crate, you see its foot, you shoot the foot until its dead. I must have done this 100-200 times throughout the game, The AI does not care that its being killed it just stands there and dies
• AI Continued - Enemies literally run at you and do not shoot while you kill them.
• Level Design on Side Quests - Every Single Side Quest ona Planet has the exact same level design. The same building you will raid a minumum of 4-5 times of the 3-5 different buildings with the exact same enemy placement everytime.
• Weapon & ArmorMods - So many weapon mods and the only ones worthwhile are changing between Synthetic & Organic Damage, and if you use anything other than a shield booster on your armor your a complete idiot because the other mods do absolutly nothing to assist you
• Planet Exploring & Mako - Do I even need to go into this? It handles like a Shopping Cart. The Terrain is just a joke Yes we all understand your supposed to explore each and every corner of every planet to find every mineral to finish the Secondary quests, But what do these quests actually do for you other than Money? I lost count when I hit 3mil Credits just from playing the game and bought all the best weapons and armor. You don't even get an Achevement for it

So what makes Mass Effect so great?

The Mainquest. Its that simple. It is so well designed, thoughtout and implemented that you just want to keep playing. the genius thing about that though is that as you play, those mediocre side quests keep popping up as you travel you feel compelled to help the person because Bioware is perhaps the Ace of RPG Dialogue sucking you in and you ignore the flaws of their design that it really doesn't settle in until your more than halfway through the game and just get really annoyed by the horrible design of them enough to just stop doing them alltogether.

But like I said, the Main Quest is just so good you have to keep playing to Finish it. and with the Dialog options you get depending on what you trained with your skillpoints the encounters can be so insane & off the wall. I mean the Ending I got With my Intimidate Skill Maxed made me laugh out loud when I encountered Seren and saw the outcome of using it (I wont spoil it, It's worth seeing without knowing)

The Main Quest makes it Deserve a Nomination imo. but Not the Award itself. I am suprised its not nominated.

I stopped trusting gamespot's reviews a long time, and only refer to my local gaming magazine (Hyper) for an informed view on a game. Why? Because gamespot have been sucked up and molded into a team of elitists who complain far too much about a games fault and not enough focus on it's good qualities. Mass Effect is a prime example. A perfectly good game, with some minor issues, and it doesn't even recieve an editors award, whereas something like, Assassins Creed, which is simply plain, boring and just tiresome compared to ME, recieve that honor.

I'm sorry, but the people who review the games on this site stoped being gamers a long time, and have become mainstream journalists

But yes, I understand WHY it didn't recieve GOTY nomatation, or best 360 nomatation.

Mass Effect and Bioshock are my top 2 360games of the year and neither are on the list..
