Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is the best story driven game imo, up next comes Red Dead Redemption and then Black Ops.
Forget everything in this thread and just buy Lost Odyssey. If it doesn't tug on your heart strings a little, then you are possessed by a demon.
Lords of Shadow is decent too.
Forget everything in this thread and just buy Lost Odyssey.ristactionjaksoLong winded JRPGs scare me more than horror games D: I would suggest the Darkness, a game i never would have assumed was interesting until someone suggested it to me :P

That's a appropriate rpg length.
The Witcher 2 and Read Dead Redemption have great stories.
And I saw someone else mention it: Silent Hill Downpour.

40-50 hours could be considered short depending on how good the game is.

It could yes. But typically, people don't have the patience for a longer game these days. I had over 100 hours on Rogue Galaxy, a game which you can beat in 40-60. You can easily get over 100 hrs in Lost Odyssey if you want to do the side missions. I personally think 40-50 hrs of pure story is great.40-50 hours isn't long winded for a great rpg. Ya it could be, but 40-50 hrs in Lost Odyssey is just pure story. You can easily get 80-100 hrs if you want to do the side missions. A game can take as long as you want if you don't rush. I personally think 40-50 hrs of just story is great for a $11 game.[QUOTE="Blueresident87"]

But 40 hours could be good as long as it doesnt feel drawn out and is fun to play. Ill check out lost odyssey though. Sounds good so far.

Its a fantastic rpg. It has the classic turn based battle system, but the game makes it really interesting with the ring system thrown in it. It was made by the same guy who created final fantasy. Basically, if the name final fantasy was put on it, it would have scored a 9 or 9.5 here on gamespot and fans wouldn't question it as a final fantasy game. I think it would have been the final fantasy to beat final fantasy 7, would have been the best one of all. Plus it an older game so its really cheap now. If you love classic style rpg's with a very deep story then you'll love this game.Like most here have already said Lost Odyssey is the way to go. It made me take an interest in a genre I used to hate.

The only turn based combat game Ive really played is Pokemon. lol

No way. The story was way too predictable.
I really enjoyed the story in that game.

I though it was pretty good too.
Everything in the story was easy to predict, though. The outcome wasn't really a secret.
Alan Wake is heavily based on story.

It literally is story based. Also a very underrated game, one of my favorite experiences on Xbox 360.
Blue Dragon is an amazing old school rpg with a classic story and it's just a fun game. I'd say it's around 30 hours but you can usually find it for less than $10.

It wasnt as much about the story progression, which was good, but about MaX's lifestyle change.
Alan wake is awesome and has a really nice story (if you take the time to find and read all the book pages).
Red red redemption: amazing game.
Lost odyssey.
Max Payne 3 (love it).
I havent seen it yet, but Im really enjoying AC3 story. Not desmunds side but Connor's story is interesting.
Lost Odyssey and Castlevania. I used my X360 for arcade fighters and halo mostly. Oh, Last Remnant was an under appreciated game. I thought it was really good.
