I was just thinking of games to buy, and i was looking for some help. The game can be of any style, but must have a good story. examples of good stories, mass effect, fable 2, the force unleashed, and thats all i can think of. bad stories were gears (no real story) cod 4 and halo3 great games, no real story. anybody have any suggestion?

Bioshock has a pretty good overarching story, if your a RE fan and your already invested in the story of Umbrella and Raccon City and such, theres RE5. Stand alone games I could recommend is Assassins Creed, Prince of Persia (be prepared for a trilogy) and Dead Space are the one's I can think of off the top of my head.

Of all the games I've played on the 360 Assassin's Creed is probably the one with the best story.

Tales of Vesperia is an excellent game with a nice story so far. It's quickly becoming my favorite 360 game.

I have to speak out against Assassin's Creed storyline, it's just a flat out terrible story. The ending just calls it quits and walks out the door (litterally)

Fallout 3, Bioshock, and also Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (The game itself is "meh" but the story is epic) are some good games concerning "story"

Eh, I always thought the Gears storyline was pretty interesting for an action game played mostly by bros...

Its difficult to find a good story in a game these days. I found that the best stories were always the old point and click adventures, like the monkey island games and the broken sword games.

on the 360 the game with the best story i have played is BioShock, by a very long way. most other games tend to focus on the graphics and gamplay, which is fine, because its a game after all not a movie or book, but a good story always makes for a better experience.

My favourite are as follow in order:

1) The Darkness, The story of the main character in this game can be quite touching at some point and it's a pretty "dark" but meaningful story.

2) Lost Odyssey, You meet different characters who have a certain link of relationship to each other and there are lot of interesting twists in the plot. It will chew up a good amount of your time

3) Tales of Vesperia, if you don't mind the kinda strange conversation cutscene (not the skit) then you may find the story quite interesting to playthrough or once.

Yeah, I was going to say the darkness. Cheap, good graphics, and a good unique story.

I'd also like to recommend The Darkness, just recently played through it and felt it was a game worth playing. much unlike farcry 2 which I only played for like 20 minutes and got fed up with it... Quantum Of Solace was also pretty fun.

Mass Effect and The Darkness have really good stories. If you go for Mass Effect, I suggest reading the book first and then play the game.

Another vote for The Darkness. Took my by surprise how good of a game that was, and its dirt cheap now.

Bioshock or Fallout 3 as stated. Most good stories are in books.

I'll plug The Darkness again as that was a game I really enjoyed as well.

I'd also like to say that despite the medicro reviews I'm finding the story in Lost Planet to be pretty engaging with a few twists and turns.

The story in Fable 2 was about as cliche as they get. And the end fell pretty flat on it's face but I will say the gameplay was excellent.

Heard Lost Odessey (probably spelled wrong) has a good story. BTW, did you know that Mass Effect already has two books out. The 2nd one sets the stage for ME2. Both are great reads. I know that reading is almost going out of style but these are great books.

I would say the Orange Box for the Half Life 2 series. If you play through Half Life 2 through to Episode 2 you really get attached to the characters. Episode 2 also has the most shocking ending I experience and it just leaves me excited for Episode 3.

Agreed. Also try the Half-Life series (The Orange Box).

Lost Odyssey and Mass Effect were probably the only 360 games I've played with truly immersive, gripping stories. Oh, and Eternal Sonata had a good one, but I found it hard to get into. Bioshock is really deep too. Had a solid story with really strong themes behind it.
