oh i forgot... theres the capacity 14 gb and free space 10 gborrytur
Go to "Media-Videos-Delete Videos". Those stupid Adidas ads take up several gbs.
so its normal to have 14 gb capacity and 10 gb free space rigth?orrytur
Yeah. It's definitely enough for game saves and downloadable content, but it'll fill up rediculously fast if you try to download any HD movies or videos.
So what everyone is attesting to is the $200 'arcade' version that only comes with a 256MB memory card doesn't come with a hard drive? Where is the OS and other updates stored then?
like the ps3 and computers, the software that runs all the nessacry tasks takes up memory from the hard drive. So the dashboard memory on the xbox 360 (the menu where u start off and play demos access xbl etc) takes up about 6 gb just like the first xbox where it took like 4 gb somethin like that. Even on the ps3 its the same...so everyone has a 14 gb drive or more on 360. Im not rlly sure but check ur harddrive in system memory and check if there is anythin extra on it (demos setc). If u want more memory u could always hook up a external drive to ur 360 thru usb. U have to format it or its alrdy formatted sometimes. I currently have 163 out of 180 gb on my 360. =)kokoane123
I didnt know you can buy any HDD to hook up to 360.

Thats not quite correct. The dashboard takes up no hard drive space in order for it to work. Only a few meg are used by the hard drive for the dashboard, buts only cached data, it can be deleted and is not essential for the OS to function. The 360 OS is contained on the machines motherboard, its only 17mb in size.
With the 20Gb hard drive, about 7Gb is reserved for system cache, game updates and backwards compatability.

I would recommend deleting videos and demos.People the preloaded videos, themes, gamer pictures, and arcade demos are not out of the 6GBs missing. Telling him to delete adidas ads is not going to get those 6 gigs back. The 6GBs are where the console stores console settings, game updates, system updates, whatever. Its like your computer haddrive, You may have a 100GB harddrive for instance but if you delete everything theres still 10GBs or so missing well whats there? System info, operating system, all that kind of stuff. 360 is essentially a PC make that connection and it makes sense.Ket87
There is no operating system files on the hard drive the OS is on embeded on the 360's motherboard.
That's a good question but that's maybe also one of the reasons why the available memory is so low. Maybe it's actually like 7GB internal memory or something...So what everyone is attesting to is the $200 'arcade' version that only comes with a 256MB memory card doesn't come with a hard drive? It's 20 gb, but 6 of it is used on softwares that are used for updates and other stuff. julian_jr...and some of the space also "disappears" because of the filesystem used (which also apply to PCs).
