I mean really good

Whoever thinks they are good at a shooter video game will be in for a rude awakening when joining the Army. I am a Combat Marine Corps Vet with Combat Action Ribbon and I swear, I was on Xbox live playing and these morons online were telling me how "Real" it was. Wow, how stupid. People who join the military because they are good at a shooter game are just "Thinning out the herd" so be my guest.marinevetstl
I'd like to know how this thread is two pages already.
You can't be serious..... but just in case no. A big NO.
It's a FREAKING VIDEO GAME, the army is REAL LIFE. Do you see the difference? You should ask a recruiter about grenade indicators and when do you get those lol.
I don't see why you would want to join the army anyway, why be the governments b!tch and kill people for him? Also in boot camp you are seperated from the girls for a period of about 3 or 4 months. Does that really sound appealing to you? Not having any female contact for that long? Only being around other men? I would absolutely hate that.
YES !!!! Run don't walk and go enlist. Just remember whenever you make a mistake you just hit the reset button and you'll be good to go. So RUN NOW HURRY !!!!!!
Oh and the more kills you get the faster you move up in rank. Plus you get to use all the weapons they have in COD on your 1st day in the Army.
The military actually monitor the leaderboards so if you're as good as you say then I'm sure they will know who you are already

I love shooters but to be honest I don't have the heart to kill anyone in real-life unless it was in self-defense. But on the virtual battle field I'm Rambo and GI Joe!! I think that's where the TC is confused....fantasy vs Reality!!!
Considering COD is completely unrealistic compared to real-life military combat, no. Also being good at a game does in no way mean you'll be good at military combat, which requires intense physical training and an actual understanding of battlefield tactics.
I'm seriously hoping this is a joke thread.
I've never been in the army but I have watched Stripes with Bill Murray and In the Army Now with Pauly Shore and Andy Dick which tells me that not only is military combat hilarious but the good guys (USA) will always win. So I say heck yeah! Just remember to jump alot when the enemy start shooting at you.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that playing something like COD (or more realistically, Battlefield) would be beneficial in the army. It wouldn't make you a good soldier but your honed reflexes and being able to spot tiny movements from long distances etc could be helpful and give you an edge.
I have to say, if I went paint-balling (yes I know, nothing like the army but as close as I am going to get) with the guy at the front of the BF3 leaderboards I would be pretty damn scared and expect to be ripped a new one.

You do have a valid point as far as helping out your hand and eye coordination but that's about it. We all know that it takes alot more attributes to make up a real soldier.

yeah i know what you mean :P, don't mistake games and reality. Just because you can use your fingers on your controller to kill fantasy enemies doesn't mean it's the same having your finger on the trigger on real enemiesResearch has shown that people who are good at COD make extremely good soldiers for the army. So I think you will be great in the army.
