last week my 21 month old system got the red lights i was devastated as most people would be but i didn't panic. i checked all the cables they were fine all plugged in correctly. i then check the power pack its slightly warm so i decide to leave it for a while to cool down. i then remembered that some problems can be caused by dust getting into the system.

THIS IS MY CURE USE A VACUUM CLEANER/HOOVER TO SUCK OUT THE DUST FROM THE SYSTEM.

i did exactly that on the ventilation holes and i fired it up and it worked no red lights just pure gaming pleasure. hope this helps other people like it helped me.

well you know on the front of the system around the power button there are 4 lights that usually light up green well if 4 light up red then you haven't plugged it in properly which isn't bad but if you get 3 then that means its a problem with the hardware that only Microsoft can fix but if you let the power pack cool and hopefully use a vacuum to get the dust out then it could work again if it still doesn't work the you need to send it to Microsoft.

yea probably just anything that gets the dust away from the system, in the summer i use a fan to blow anything away from it and to keep it cool.

Good for you, if mine ever dies I'll try that first before I call Microsoft and say goodbye to my Xbox for a month.

Hardly a cure, purely coincidental. Obviously, it could not hurt though. I have been taking a vacuum cleaner to my consoles for as long as I can remember.

I think it is lame that one is not allowed to open the case to vacuum the inside of the console. It's a computer, really, and with all the air moving through, the dust can get incredible. I guess you could vacuum through the vents. In theory, it sounds okay. I don't know about that solving the RROD problem though, since that's caused by excessive heat melting the processor glue.

Hmm I would think this is more of a case by case basis.
