OK, I have been going around these forums for quite a while now and it seems to me that lots of people 360's have broken down and stopped working. These problems range from overheating, to freezing up, and to even a game messing up the hardware. Now, I mean, don't get me wrong and all, but either you guys don't take proper care of your console, or you guys haven't even contacted the xbox.com support center for help. Microsoft even said that the number of defective consoles is EXTREMELY LOW. I think all of the console breaking stuff is a way to bash the 360.

P.S. This poll is for people who actually own a 360, not for anyone looking to bash the system, just honest answers.

You should have added more options to the poll. Ask people to check to see if their systems were manufactured after March or not and to vote whether or not their systems broke. The systems made after March don't seem to be breaking nearly as much as launch systems.

My console hasnt yet froze or crashed, but the problem that has really been ticking me off(i suppose some of its my fault) is when you change the consloes orientation with the disc still spinning in the drive, it gets scratched up pretty bad.  I have so far scratched 2 games, oblivion and pdz, but i have them somewhat fixed with a device called scratch doctor, though oblivion and pdz freeze sometimes it is way better than not being able to play them at all because that they wont even load.. am I the only one that has these problems?

It doesn't really matter really. If a system has broken down, then, I guess this is what happens, whether the console was made yesterday or launch day. People can just explain it here. Plus I have already gotten a few answers saying they have a perfect fine console that they got launch day.

This is why this states it in the manual somewhere I believe. Why would you do that anyway. That was completely not a good decision on your part.

I had one at launch that took me until April, and that one lasted until...today! Three days after I began playing Chromehounds, which sucks, as I heard the majority of people aren't having any problems with it. Ah well - I'm still under warranty and all that good stuff.

I have had mine since February and it has been knocked over on three different occasions standing up vertically(due to all of my very annoying little sisters 8 year old friends that raid my room) and one of those times Oblivion was inside the drive. My console still work perfectly fine and It has only frozen on a few occasions, and its almost always because im either selecting music from my comp, or looking at pics from my comp...always has to do with the comp.

Mine came close to failing. The problem I had with mine was my own stupidity. The thing was overheating. It didn't help that I had it in an enclosed cabinet. I moved it's location, where now, it is well ventilated. Haven't had a problem since :)

I wouldn't yet class mine as defective, but i will tell you the problems i've had so far. I bought mine at the end of april this year, it was manufactured in November. I use an optical cable for sound, and my only complaint so far is this (and it seems to be a somewhat unique problem) When i turn my system on, about 1/5 times i get no sound. I have to either reboot the 360 or unplug and replug in the optical cable, then it works fine. Here's the wierder part. Everyone who owns a 360 knows that when you first turn it on you get the 360 logo and i always always get sound on that part, i have never had it not. When it loads to the dashboard is when i get the 1/5 or so chance i won't get sound. Thats the problem i have. I have used multiple cables and it's not them, its the 360 or the supplied AV out cable from Microsoft.

It's not enough for me to return it yet, i'm waiting to see if anything else develops, thank god i got the 2 year extended warranty lol

Other than occasional game crashes/freezes thats the only problem i've encountered so far. Not detrimental, but for what i paid i don't want to be annoyed at all ;)

Mine just died this week, so I clicked yes. Microsoft just sent me the box today to ship it back in, and I looked at the back of the console to see when it was made before packing it up. Mine was manufactured in October 2005.

This poll would be more accurate if you simply asked, "Have you had to replace your xbox 360 due to defects?" The way the question is worded, it makes it sound like only people who currently have a defective xbox should check yes, when many people have already had to swap out their Xbox, but may not currently have a defective box. I dunno.

I bought a core set in January and purchased everything that a premium system would've given me had I been able to find one, but it was still kinda hard to find 360 at that time, so I grabbed it. My friend got his at launch and his ended up dying right around Valentine's Day. M$ had his system replaced in a matter of days, literally sent out on Monday and had it back on Thursday. Mine has had issues with freezing, but last Friday it not only froze, but all of the audio quit working, half of the colors in the graphics disappeared, and most of the screen went to a black and red checkerboard looking effect. I called support, they asked me to power down, unplug and re-boot after 60 seconds. It froze at the dashboard screen and then when I tried to reboot I got the red circle of lights around the power button instead of green. I just got back from the UPS Store where I dropped my 360 in the mail headed to Texas to be fixed. I only hope that I get the same turn-around speed that my friend got back in February. As much as I'm angered by the breakdown, I still love the 360 and can't wait for mine to come back as soon as possible. I'm really bummed ablout missing out on Madden on day one.

So much for that 5% defect rate. From the people here, it's looking more like a 30% defect rate. Pretty eye-opening if you ask me, assuming sony fan-boys aren't toying with the poll.

A similar poll was done a few weeks ago.  That came out at 22% had to send their system in at least once.  I wish the mindless fanboys would stop using MS's number.  Its stupid, use your brain and think.  Even if there was a 30% defective rate they would still say 5% until they had to fess up.  How old is that magical number anyway?  From the first month after launch?

Trust me, I think its worse then that (at least for the people on gamespot. If there are 150+ voters, how come only about 10 of them are posting to say what is going on. People laughed at me when i said 3-5% my ass earlier, well look whos laughing now.

And cows are smart enough to delete their cookies to botch the results if they wanted to.

I don't think that this poll proves anything other than the percentage of Gamespot forum members who own 360's that have had problems.  Of the approximately 250,000 defective 360's that microsoft reports, the number here probably makes up a very, very small portion.

I don't know, these numbers seem unlikely to me now. I mean, come on, there are around 25 people that I am friends with and know of in my city that have a 360. Not one, Let me repeat, NOT ONE of them has had a problem with their 360. Well, that is, if you don't count my one friend that broke his disk drive. Something tells me cows are lurking in our presence............

Mine works like a dream has only frozen a few times in GRAW and LOTR when host quit and had some connection trouble.
