How do you expect virtual reality to be?

Say you were to make virtual reality. How would it look? Or, if microsoft were to release one how do you think that should look?

I always pictured, like, an octagon shaped treadmill type thing. Then you could walk in all directions and not end up walking into a wall. And then it could be like the ones in the gym that raise up to simulate hills and stuff. and of course sensors or gloves on ur hands and feet. and goggles, dont forget goggles :P
