My old Xbox was LOUD. Since I got an elite I hardly ever hear it to be totally honest. If I install to hard drive I almost never hear it. If not it accesses the disc a little bit but it's still probably 85% more quiet than my old one. My old one sounded like it was throwing up.

gonna have to disagree with that, installed to HDD you dont need that much volume to actually hear the game

Put it in the freezer for two days then preheat the oven to broil and thaw out in oven for 2 minutes. Worked for me.

Or just buy a large hard drive and save the game to it and play directly from the HD.

You make the choice.

All these except the cooling fan part... that would probably make your box go Mt. Vesuvius on you, especially if it's the older version.
