I'm not trolling or trying to get a rise out of anyone, but I was just wondering whether anyone has ever been tempted to buy a PS3 after their 360 died. Mine died the other day after only a few months of fairly casual use and, I must admit, as much as I love my 360, I did seriously consider getting a PS3.

I have no doubt that the 360 has the best games catalogue and, at the moment, is pushing the best graphics, but for a fairly casual gamer like myself, who works 9 to 5 weekdays and only has limited time for gaming, the thought of having to take the system back and have it replaced is actually quite annoying. I have spoken to the shop and since it is less than 2 months old they have told me to bring it back and they will do a straight exchange. However, as much as I prefer the 360 as a gaming machine, I have been tempted to see if I can pay a little more and get a PS3.

However, after looking a bit more into the PS3 games library, I have decided that I cannot justify paying more for what is essentially less, and whilst most multi-plats are fairly similar nowadays, there is still a noticeable difference in the 360's favour..

Anyway, this isn't PS3 bashing... I'm more interested in whether anyone else has almost converted?

Not at this moment as any games out for that, that I want are out for the Xbox 360 but with MGS coming out soon I can feel my self being tempted but since I have basically no money there is no chance off me getting it.

I recently bought my first HDTV so Im thinking about getting one just for the blu ray. The only game that is coming that Im interested in is FF13 and I would never buy a whole system just for one game. Im probably going to wait a while for a price drop or two and then finally get one.

I've been so close to buying one on many occasions, but it always comes down to the same thing; there are no games I want on the system.

When the PS3 first came out, I was tempted for it for Motorstorm. That seemed to be the only game to get. Later I wanted it due to lair, but when it came out it got a bad score. Then when grumbling about xbox live payments, I heard online play was free for PS3. But I found out from a freind most of the online games were terrible. Nothing so far trying to convince me...

i like the inclusion of wifi... as it stands, when I get my new 360 I may have to buy the wireless adaptor, which is kinda expensive. But at the moment I can't justify swaping the 360,

They don't have tht many games that interest me, only the new MGS, resistance and haze. And they're not worth spending another NZ$1000+, like I spent on my X360 Elite.

At the time I was tempted to buy it for Ninja Gaiden Sigma. But then I thought about it and even for a fan it would be rediculious to pay down € 599 just for some upgrades to a game you already own. So I didn't. And I'm happy with it seeing as how NGII is just two weeks away.

I would have bought one only for the BluRay player. But it's too big and ugly just for that.

I was tempted then almost exactly a year ago I gave in an purchased one. I only buy the exclusives for the system so I only have a handful of games but I really enjoy most of them (except Ratchet and Clank, what a steaming pile). Resistance is my favorite online shooter to tell you the truth. If a game is multiplatform I buy it for the 360 because of the superior quality of xbl and as stupid as it sounds achievements and if I had it to do over again I would probably not have purchased it but now that I have it I can enjoy the best of all games.

I will not be buying a ps3. I refuse to support Sony's underhanded "trojan horse" business model. Had they built the ps3 with gaming hardware focused on gaming, instead of their blu-ray ambitions, I would have owned every console this gen (just like every gen before).

I would never buy another system based on hardware issues or little itty bitty flaws that a system has. I understand the RROD can be a pain in the arse, but it's still a great system. Just because my Xbox 360 gets RROD, doesnt mean I'm going to ditch it. That's stupid, imho. So basically screw Fable 2, Gears of War 2, and all the awesome games that will come out in the next 2-3 years, because of RROD. Get it fixed, or buy a newer model and you'll never have to face that problem again.

Here's how I look at it. I like the PS3 for it's exclusives and 1080 support. I like the Xbox 360 for exclusives, Xbox Live, and accessibility. I like the Nintendo Wii because of gameplay and the "classic" games. To me, they all have their pros and cons, but their pros always outweigh their cons. Best bet is to own all systems and get the best of all worlds collided into one.

Its the second time I have had my 360 break. It happens like every year when the summer hits and I am tired of fixing it. I have had my 360 for over two years now. When my 360 breaks, oh well, I got my PS3. I was never tempted. I bought my ps3 January 2007 and have been happy since. To be honest, I am tired of fixing my 360 and spending the waste of a money to fix it. If you add up the two times I had to pay money to fix it, it would amount to a 2nd PS3. I do not believe that any console should break more than once. It is absolutely ridiculous. I am happy that I got GTA4 for PS3. If I did for 360, I would be so bored because now I can't play my 360 for the summer till it is fixed. I am not even sure if I am gonna fix it with all the trouble I have had.

newer models of the 360 still RROD or have faulty DVD drives. Believe me, I know first hand. They still haven't fixed the problem.

Honestly,Yes I seriously did think of selling my 360 (out of sheer frustration from getting the RRoD twice in a month) and buying the ps3.But I stood by my xbox (I wont be able to quit Halo 3 I just know it! ). But yes,The PS3 is starting to get a better library (killzone2,God of War3,MGS4 etc) so I might just buy the Ps3 after saving some money.

I'm gonna be tempted to buy it next march when killzone2 is out and then I can get MGS4. Then there a the two resistance games. But that's it. And the last two are more of a bonus.

I'm gonna go off topic to real quick and say, once that Hideo Kojima (not sure if I spelled it right) can see how bad the ratings are for his game he'll port it over to the 360. just saying with the PS3 in last, and it MGS game being ported before. it could happen.

I originally wanted to get a PS3, but I got the 360 because it was the first next-gen console available for purchase. I have not regretted my decision.

Oh and one more thing I want to add is the PS3 breaks just as much as the 360. I know 4 guys at work and they all had to replace theirs atleast once. And that stuff is WAY too much $$$ to replace you know?

I bought one back last August when it didnt really have anything besides Resistance and Motorstorm and I sold it in a hot second.

I'll probably be looking to get one this summer though, for MGS4, LBP, the impeccable God of War 3, and the other past titles.

I was tempted, and got one. How could I go without MGS4?

But honestly, it was the 360 that was tempting me because I had already planned on PS3 and all, but wanted one for Mass Effect. And right before Mass Effect released, I gave in and picked up a Premium.

Yes. I would get one if they weren't so expensive. Since HD-DVD went down I may be able to get some help buying one now and not have to spend my own money. For the blu-ray player.

I was not only tempted but I did get one. I set it right next to my 360 but they didn't seem to get along at all. My PS3 was so jealous that I played my 360 online all the time. I gave Motorstorm a little quality time and messed around with RFOM and GT5P. But in the end the 360 has won my affections. I sold my PS3 on Ebay for about what I paid for it. So I see it as a 4 month rental of the PS3. Good but no great in my opinion.

I bought a PS3 back in February when it became obvious that HD-DVD was doomed. I Needed a Blu Ray player and also my 7 year-old PS2 finally died, so I needed something to play my PS2 games on. So basically I looked at it as a PS2 that could play Blu Ray discs, since I already had a 360 for the current-gen games. However, I bought a copy of Resistance on a whim and I can honestly say its the most enjoyable online game I've ever played. I still only buy cross-platform games like Call of Duty 4 for 360 since PSN isn't as stable as XBL.

actually i have one, and i'm enjoying it right now, theres some awsome stuff on the marketplace, and the games are pretty fun on ps3 cause of the motion sensor, at first when i bought it i was like im still going to be on my xbox more because of the achievements and online, but ever since ive been on my new ps3 way more then my 360.

Fluck achievements, its all about having fun.

What do you mean "waste of money"?? Microsoft has a 3 year warranty on it. They pay for the shipping & handling & give you a replacement! I got my 360 in December 2006, it broke in late May 2007. I got my replacement from Microsoft within 3 weeks. It's now end of May 2008 and I haven't had a single problem with it! There was an inconvenience but there was no cost involved in the process of replacing the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 that was sent to me looked brand new. Also, the end user doesn't fix the Xbox 360. You call Tech Support, they send you a box, then you mail it to them. Three weeks later, a working Xbox 360 arrives on your door step with a new 3-year warranty attached to it. I would rather it kept breaking before the 3 year warranty expires because then I can really push the lifespan of the console with free replacements. :)

I don't like the PS3 because they've removed the backwards compatibility to the PS2 back catalog. However, I have been thinking about getting a PS2 so I can play/collect the PS1/PS2 games. The Xbox back catalog was about 75% complete until Sony announced it was giving up on supporting the PS2 back catalog. When Sony did this, Microsoft gave up on finishing its own. They used the ol' Competitors in Cooperation technique in that regard. However, I'm still happy they got most of the Xbox back catalog (except for the exceptional Advent Rising and The Warriors!:x ).

The PS3 game catalog is a joke. If you check Wikipedia for the best PS3 game it's Motostorm which is nothing I'm interested in. There hasn't been one game on the system that hasn't also been available on the Xbox 360, so it makes owning a PS3 redundant. Why would I want to buy PS3 to play Resistance when I can load up the Xbox 360 and play Gears of War or COD4 instead? I don't see the cost of the console going down much either...when you think about it, the video card business is 3rd party in both consoles and the cost has gone up on video cards over the years, not down. Since the video card is the most crucial part of each console, I don't really see this getting cheaper because by the time it gets cheaper, it'll be obsolete, replaced by something superior and costly.

The PS2 looks like an attractive buy. It has 1440 games and is still supported with new games coming out for it, it can also play the 4400 PS1 games. From a classic console perspective, it can provide ample entertainment for years to come. Especially if I have to send my Xbox 360 back in for repairs, the PS2 will be there to console me. Some of the Xbox back catalog that isn't supported by the Xbox 360 have equivalents for the PS2, so I figure I can just get the PS2 versions at some point. The Warriors came out on PS2. Advent Rising will have to be "moved" to a PC since for some reason they didn't produce a PS2 version. Also, the PS2 receives games that would normally only come out for the Wii, such as Obscure 2: The Aftermath. I think Sony keeps the PS2 around to compete against the Wii at the bottom end of the console pricing scale. Therefore, this allows the PS2 owner a cross section of games that would go towards the Wii without having to purchase a Wii.

In sum, I would not call the Xbox 360 a waste of money. I would say that people who buy a PS3 will find they are wanting of a better games catalog and they'll only be able to satisfy themselves on the Xbox 360 or PC. The success that Microsoft has in grabbing the superior game catalog gives them a snowball effect in the long term.

I bought my cousin's first gen 60gb PS3 off him for $200. I don't really play it, but I watch Blu-Ray on it. Uncharted is a great game, but that's basically all the PS3 has right now.

Yeah I was tempted when my 360 broke.

So since it was gone for a bit I did an old deal at EB that was "Trade in 10 games and get a PS3 for 200 dollars" I rigged it with my friend who works at EB so that I traded in 10 games worth between 7-10 dollars. Then trading in games worth nearly triple that (Gears, Halo 2, bunch of others)

Ended up walking out of there with the system, two controllers, Resistance, and Motorstorm. Probably wouldn't have ever bought one if the 360 never RRoD'd. When it comes to multi-platform I still buy games for 360, but this way I get the awesome exclusives from both systems.

Agreed with ethanpaige. I know eventually I will end up buying a ps3 when the time is right and I can get enough money for one. Unfortunately, rent, utilities, student loans, car payments, gas money, and other expenses take priority over a PS3. But I just don't need a ps3 at the moment.

I am currently waiting for my empty box from Microsoft for the SECOND time. After my first RROD a year ago, I thought long and hard about a PS3 and eventually purchased this past February. Now while I'm awaiting my empty box, I already miss my 360 and thought I would enjoy my three day weekend by playing GTAIV. Until I receive my repaired 360 back, I'll rotate between MLB 08 the Show and Oblivion GOTY for now.

Yep I was, I got my 360 back a few months ago and just recently bought a PS3 to hold me over next time my 360 dies and for MGS4, FFXIII, and a few others.
