I just purchased a 360 and love it, butI'm very nervous about it overheating and getting the "3 red lights". I came up with an idea that seems to help a little, without voiding your warrenty and is very simple.

I pickup some 1/2" Diameter plastic spacers w/adhesive on one side, typically used for the bottom of furniture and stuff. If you notice on the rear of all electronic compontents they have built in spacers at all four cornersthat raise the unit above the surface. I read this is typically used to allow the hot air to flow.

Iplaced the spacerson the rear of the 360, raising it higher off the floor (seems like the existing design does not keep the 360 off the floor high enough). By doing this it increased the air flow and it seems to not run as hot!!. I even did it to the power supply and it's seems to help also.

I really think eveyone should try this..it does seem to help and the spacers cost like $2.00. Let me know what you think.

this is a pic from my old setup but i still position my elite like this

this one below is just to show the fan size

Photobucket

and this one below is to show it in actual placement, it's the best thing i could do, and cheapest (cost $9.50 for that fan) and it's just as loud as the 360 so there's no extra noise...

I actually have my 360 on a stool horizontal, so there's airflow everywhere except the very middle of it. There's no holes there so it doesn't matter.

i just keep a spray bottle next to my tv, after a couple hours i just squirt a lil water into the xbox... 60% of the time it works everytime.

btw im kidding, the only thing i did is lower the shelf that my xbox sits on, the like cubby hole would get pry 80 degrees in there now there isnt much heat in there at all.
