For those of you new to the series, I saw on Walmart's website that if you pre-order there you get a download of the first game, and then get either Gears 2 or Gears 3 (your choice) for free! Even if you already have them both it is still a free bday gift or you can resell.

Anways, for those new to the series, with one game you will have all, but one installment and I think they are one of the best split screen games this generation in terms of fun with friends (local play).

Original Gears is $2.70, Gears 2 is around $5. I perfer to have actual games in cases. That way when an HDD fails.. I'll still have my games :P

You'd still have your game when you HDD fails. Just redownlaod it for free from the cloud.

When you scratch your disc however, you're bang out of luck aren't you?

I still use a standard 20GB from like, 7 years ago but I am also, running an external HDD. Either one could fail on me. I know, standard xbox HDDs are better but I found an external one laying around that I rarely used. Either way.. you redownload a game or clean the disc (had to do that in past due to moving an xbox with a game in it). But in the end.. I still perfer having a disc.

That still doesn't negate what Balfe said about being about to re-download from Cloud or as some will say The Marketplace. It will always be there as long as Microsoft and the Xbox brand stands. And if they were to fall, your disc is worthless too. I'm a physical copy collector as well and we have that in common, but Balfe does have a point there. Some DVD's even deteriorate over time depending on which materials it was made with.

Also Gears 2 or Gears 3 which you get to choose from are Physical copies.
