Third Person shooters allow for more movement (Platforming) and are more varied than FPS. However many TPS have a week feel to them.

I prefer FPS. I don't really have a reason, that's just the way I am I guess.

FPS, I like having more freedom of action, seeing things up close and aiming down the sights. Also, first person anything helps immersion.

Yeah in TPS there is more potential for gameplay variety. Developers don't always take advantage, but the option does exist. FPS...that's just an acronym for MP these days and nothing more.

I like both, and most games use whatever works best for them. Ie Gears of War would NEVER work in a FPS stand point.

LOL funny post...

on topic: Dead space, gears of war, mass effect, red dead redemption, resident evil , splintercell conviction.

All great games and all third person. I enjoy FPS as well but there are way better quality titles for third person. FPS just seem to be a copy and paste from the previous years title.

Depends on the game. TPS are better for games with a story that's anchored around the main character. FPS are better for multiplayer and games where other characters and environment make the story.

These are all generalizations, there's exceptions of course.

I'm fine with both. I lean a little more to third person since I can actually see the character I play.

This. I don't mind as long as the games are a blast.

Both actually. As long as the game is worth playing then it could be in isometric view for all i care. Quality is quality. Who cares what are the means for achieving it as long as it as achieved?

FPS: Bioshock, Call of Duty, Farcry 2, Halo (not a fan, but it's an acclaimed game).

TPS: Mass Effect, Gears of War, Rainbow Six.

There are many more, but those suffice to make my point: there are great games in both genres, and they each play out differently. Since the focus is different on each (TPS has a larger tactical approach, while FPS have, in general, a faster-paced, trigger-reflex mentality), I don't recommend you to try and estabilish a comparison in quality between the two. They're both awesome.

like someone else said, tps give you more movement and in games I NEED total control of my character.

EX: In COD did you ever notice (and I know most you don't camp) that it's a lot harder to climb something like a roof on FP view opposed to if you set it to TP and try the same thing?

I'm currently stuck in this dilemma. I don't know whether I should get Bioshock 2 or Alan Wake.

I like them both.I started shooters back in the Wolfenstein 3D days FPS were the norm for me. It took me a while to get used to TPS. Although TPS do allow you to do things like puzzles better.
