So I just rented a copy of Dead Space today and after about ever 10 minutes of gameply a message pops up and tells me that the disc is unreadable, there is only one visible scratch on the disc but I have played games with many scratches and there is no problem playing it. So, should I install the game onto my HDD so the xbox isn't using the disc? Does this work?

Are you allowed to do that? Because you don't really own the game... you just rented it. But you could give it a shot. You could try the toothpaste trick to 'fix' scratches.

You still need the disc to play it so it doesn't matter.

even if you install the game onto the hdd, you still need the disc in the drive in order to play..anyway...it should fix the problem until you have to return the game

When the disc is scratched you will probably get an error message during the installation anyway. It has to read the disc to install, you know?

It should install without any problems. I've had music cds that wouldn't play in a cd player or CD-ROM, but I could i still MP3 the songs onto the computer and they were fine.

Exactly. How the hell would we know how bad the scratch is and what not.
