Actually it doesnt work at all. This is from xbox.com:

The performance of Xbox Live will vary by ISP and network conditions on the Internet. Not all Internet service providers support Xbox Live play. Dial-up (for example, 56K), ISDN, and satellite Internet services are not supported.

Satelite has an epic latency, often 2-3x more than the minimum needed for a dialup game. Unless you're on a terrestrial system hooked up via ISDN or something you wont have a hope in hell in using any such service.

Dial-up is a no-go as XBL won't allow it. Satellite internet service would be fine for a silver account as all you would be doing is downloading things. If you want the gold service and the ability to play others online, satellite won't cut it. The ping for satellite is 200+ while dsl and cable are usually below 50ms. The higher ping means lag all over the place. Sorry, but it seems you're out of luck until you ger dls or cable out your way.

i would check with your local telephone providers to see if they have dsl available. I know that Dish Network is also offering dsl, but I'm not sure who qualifies.
