I just want to know how people keep their 360's cool.

When I am playing for more than 2 hours i put a normal room fan on a stand next to it so it is blowing into the side vent and blowing the heat away from the back.

Because cooling is a hot topic with the 360's, so I want to hear your ways to keep the beast cool and running smooth for the long term use.

Well my old 360 broke last week so i just picked up an arcade since i have the hard drive already and this new one runs much cooler than my old one. The plastic in the rear where the air comes out isn't hot and in general theres not much warm air coming out compared to my old one.

So you burnned out your premium console?

That's what I have and it does get pretty darn warm back there pretty fast. It isn't more than normal I know that, but in general they do get warm.

I don't have overheating issues with my system, one thing I did that I believe helps is I put four pieces of wood under the corners of the box, (inc to inc and a half thick little cubes) The way my living room is I can't really put it vertical, so this seems to be a good way to help the heat out of the system.

Also, to those of you who have box's that are really loud, are they from right at launch? A friend of mine had one that he got like the day it came out, he had that problem, and eventually his just stopped working. Not rrod, just died. He didn't get anything from MS, they said it was because of his abusing of the system, which was not true.

I never needed to do that, never had any overheating problems with my 360.

Just make sure that the storing case is well-ventilated and everything will be fine.

I don't cool mine. It's just in a well ventilated area.
It gets a little warm at the back, but never hot. The fan isn't really quiet, but it doesn't make a massive amount of noise.
I also try and turn it off after a couple of hours, just to let it cool down.

I don't use any external fans and I play(ed) for about 6+ hours a night on the weekends, sometimes even more. Luckily my 360 never RROD instead it got knocked over.

I don't use any external fans if that's what you're asking, but I do keep it in a fairly open and well-vented area of my entertainment center.

I was thinking of getting an intercooler, but is it really necessary?

I mean, so many people get buy without it that play lots.

Judging from the posts, I would say just keeping it in a good open space is the best bet.
