I don't feel like buying the two first games.

The single player is almost fully dependent on knowing what happens during the first two games. The story is sequential from one to the next.
It is worth it, the first two are great games and all the campaigns are plenty of fun.

Yeah, this. There's really no reason to skip the first two.
You will enjoy the story more if you play the first 2 but it doesnt really matter. Its not a really hard to understand plot and is alot of fun.
What's with you and not wanting to play the first two installments of a series? jk :P
I'd say no. Even though I liked the first two very much, thery are both very flat in the storytelling department. GOW3 was a big improvement in that area.

I wouldn't say the first 2 are of great writing, but there is a good deal of story from the first two that is connected to what happens in the third game.
You have to play the first 2 games before playing Gears of War 3, not only for understanding of the story, but to feel involved with the characters which is necessary for the emotional and exciting moments.
If you're into storylines, characters, plots etc. then i'd say yes, but if your main interest is action, firepower, then i'd say no. Although i have'nt played GOW 3 yet, i'd recommend you try the first 2 games ( i prefer GOW 2 ), apart from being really cheap right now, it'd be a good introduction to the series.
