Destiny question...

Ok i bought destiny for my 360 and then i realized after playing hardcore for a few days that in order for me to get the xbox 1 version for free i had to buy the digital copy. I can take my hard copy back and buy the download easy but I wanted to know if i did that would it mean that I would have to restart my game over with the downloaded version, or will it save my game data?? any help would be nice and thank you in advance.

Yea I bought the digital 360 so I could get the free upgrade. Target has but 1 game card get 1 25% off so get the two 3 pack of 10$ cards makes it only about 52 bucks for both versions.
