if not is there a way to get my profile to carry over to my friends xbox so i can gain gamer points when we play together?
many thanks either way,

if you could use a usb flash drive, then why would M$ even sell the memory card? This topic was probaly done for the PS2 like 4 years ago i bet you. The wii on the other hand doesn't have a nintendo brand memory card (or a Hard drive). They just use SD cards from what i know.
Get an aftermarket memcard, its cheaper.Cujo31
who makes a cheap aftermarket memcard for the 360 ? I havent seen any yet
I just don't get why this is such a big deal. Yeah, I'll admit that the 360 memory units are a little overpriced for the size that they are, but come on, they still cost peanuts. I mean you managed to afford the $300 - 500 cost of the console, even more if your in other parts of the world, and each individual game costs between 60 -100 bucks depending on where you are in the world, I would assume everyone has bought atleast a few games to play on thier system.
The 64 mb card is easily found for $20 bucks new, between 10 and 15 used. The 8x (512 mb) unit is only 35 new and around 20 to 25 used. That's pretty dirt cheap. Just don't buy a morning coffee for a couple weeks, and your there.
If it's not worth it to you, fine, but this cheap memory unit debate is kind of pointless, they aren't that much.
I live in Sweden, and just two months ago I paid $100 for the 512MB chip, while the 64MB chip costs about $75.
Of course, the inflation rate is outta whack right now because the dollar is so low, but the prices are not even remotely as low as that which you mention here.
Even so, $20 for a 64MB chip is a complete ripoff, when you can get a 1GB chip for around $10.
If might not sound like much in small ratios, but as the numbers get bigger, it increasingly adds up.

I hear you, I know in some countries it's insane how overpriced some of the stuff is, but I was mainly referring to North America and the US prices, since around 60% of the install base is there.I can't know what a given item costs in every country.
Correct me if I'm wrong though, but if that's the case for you, then I'm guessing the games and the console are significantly higher priced there too? Which still I go back to my first point, that if you can fork over all that money for the console and the games, a memory unit is still a relatively small price if you have a use for one.
Again they are overpriced for what they are, no argument there,
Yeah, you are correct - the games and systems are way overpriced here as well, so that point is valid.
The Xbox 360 Elite cost me (4500 kronor) $700 and the PS3 cost me (6000 kronor) $935. Hell, even the Wii was a rip off at $430!
Most games cost around 600-700 kronor, which is up to $110!
Though, this is due in part to two major factors - 1) inflation - when I moved to Sweden the dollar was worth about 11 Swedish kronor, today the dollar is worth a mere 6 Swedish kronor, 2) tax - Sweden has one of the highest tax rates in the world at 25% sales tax.
Fortunately, PS3 is backwards compatible so I do most my game shopping for that on ebay. It sucks with the 360 that most games aren't backwards compatible though because these prices are obscene.

You dont need a memory card to transfer a profile. Just recover it at your friends house.
