My first one was a cheap eBay one and it was horrible!
Yeah the official Xbox 360 VGA cables output at HD resolutions although you will need a PC monitor thats HDCP compliant. 1nverted
You're right about the VGA calbes and HD resolutions but the monitor does not need to be HDCP compliant for VGA, just for HDMI. I learned this the hard way with my PS3 since it wouldn't display on my monitor at work which was not HDCP compliant. The 360 with VGA worked just fine.
Just buy the offical Xbox 360 VGA cable and you can't go wrong. You will need something to output the sound from though don't forget.
Anything with a resolution of over 1280x720 is HD. With PC monitors HD is nothing new, PC gamers have been playing games in HD for the past decade!

Okay. I have a 19" Widescreen LG monitor. I'm almost positive that it'll be fine. But I don't think I have the proper speakers. The speakers for my comp. have only ONE audio plug but my sound system in my room have both red/white audio plugs. The thing is, it's hooked up to a 32" TV. I think I might just save $40 and stick with my setup I have now.

For the speakers, you'll be fine. The official Microsoft VGA cables come with an adapter for sound. The VGA cords themselves look like this:

The red/white plugs do the audio. You can plug them right into things that take the red/white set up. If yours does not, the adapter that comes with the VGA cables looks like this:

The red/white plugs go into the back and makes the sound into a 1/8" audio plug. From there you can plug it into something or get another female to female 1/8" adapter that will let you plug in headphones or connect speakers that have the same plug as the adapter above. It's really easy to do and once you go HD, you'll never go back to SD. Also, when you do get a larger HDTV one day, they all accept VGA inputs now. You'll be able to use this same cord with the new TV and get 1080p out of the 360. It's win win.

I have a DVI input for my monitor which doesn't fit the VGA cable I think ...
