Assassin's Creed is incredible, but get Mass Effect for now since you'll spend more time on it, and if you need long-term entertainment then get that. But if you dont need long long entertainment sessions, then maybe Assassin's Creed might be the best for fast-paced fun. Still, I'd recommend Mass Effect.
If I had to choose I would go with Mass Effect but I love Sci-Fi games and RPG's. I have Assassins Creed and that is a fun game too. You can't go wrong with either one.
If you want to get more bang for your buck, you'd probably be best off with Mass Effect. For it's length alone. With conservative playing times, you could finish Assassin's Creed in a week. It doesn't have a lot of replayability. Although don't get me wrong. It's been a fun ass week playing Assassin's Creed.
