A lot of the XBLA games can only be purchased with Microsoft Points, so if you want them, you need to buy a points card.

For xbox originals it can be cheaper to buy the game preowned. If you want to buy these from Marketplace you will need atleast the 20GB harddrive, though the elite is preferable as some originals take as much as 5.9GB of space.

I do not know the prices for North America because I live in Europe. I believe Americans refer to it as "the island across the Atlantic". It is not really an island, but whatever...

I believe the Microsoft Points are useful because there are many games that can only be purchased on Xbox Live that aren't expensive and are fun to play. You can also rent movies and tv shows, buy gamer pictures, themes for your Xbox Dashboard and even exclusive content for games( new levels[mass effect], new maps[gears, halo 3, cod4], etc.). GTA IV will have exclusive content for the 360 coming out in September.

I prefer the pre-paid cards because then I don't have to use my credit card...for a small purchase...plus I hate using my credit card and refuse to use it unless it is for a big purchase.

Ditto that. Pre-paid cards are the way to go. I've found Wal-Mart to generally have the lowest prices on the cards. Fron other threads on the subject, it appears that the only way to remove your credit card from the Microsoft system is to call customer support.

You can't really put a money price on them since they are charged in points, and you can buy points for different prices at different stores.

Films are usually between 160 and 540 MS, but thats on the European marketplace which has considerably less content than the US version

Well lets break down the actual price for the Microsoft points.

400 MS points = $5.00 American

[Typical XB original game = 1200 points ~ $15.00 American]

[Downloadable content for games = from 80 - 800 MS points ~ $1 - $10]

so 80 MS points = $1

Do you think its worth it?

Do the math

Best of luck in your gaming adventures!

I purchased 1200 pts to download Symphony of the Night and still have 200 left that are basically unusable. If theres a game you really want you should look first at the local gaming store. There are several XBox games that are cheaper to purchase used from a gaming store than they are to download, but if you can't play them any other way then you should consider the points.
