Getting closer to release, news on the game's length and reviews.

With the release of Alan Wake a mere three weeks away in Europe, some news on the length of the game and the embargo of reviews has been revealed. The Director of Alan Wake, Matias Myllyrinne, tweeted a few hours ago that Alan Wake, "Takes me 3 times longer to play than Max Payne 2 did. But I can play both games in my sleep... and sometimes do." Of course he can play it in his sleep, he's the director for both of the games. Alan Wake's length of course will vary from player to player, with multiple difficulty settings and the game auto-adjusting difficulty to make it easier or harder as you play based on how you're doing, if you rush through the game to get to the ending, or if you take your time to find the literally hundreds of collectibles, secrets, hidden cutscenes, and easter eggs. However, Max Payne 2 was around a 6-10 hour long game your first time through, which would imply Alan Wake may very well be a game that could last you the first time through between 20-30 hours.

On a related note, Eurogamer have officially confirmed there are review embargoes for Alan Wake and when they are over. In case you're not aware, an embargo is when there is a set time for something to be allowed, and in this case, it means reviews for Alan Wake aren't allowed for companies to post until May 5th, at 6 AM (BST Timezone). However, according to some people in Europe, some gaming magazines have just popped up on shelves with Alan Wake on the cover. These magazines include GEE Magazine and Official Xbox Magazine in Brazil. Whenever these magazines have new previews and info or reviews is yet to be determined though. The bright side is some pre-opinions on Alan Wake have been very positive.

i just hope it performs well at high resolutions..

i know silent hill homecoming on xbox360 at 1680x1050 performed horribly, very choppy framerate.

Well it better be long... It is single player only, completely story based... Just like Heavy Rain... It is the kind of game that has to make its mark the first time through because after you complete the story, there isn't much to do anymore...

I will wait on a price drop for sure, sure its going to be a great game but $60 on a single player only game? Maybe if there were so many games I want and still need to beat.

why dont you try renting it?

who knows you might only have to rent it twice to beat it, thats 15-17$ instead of 60

I wouldn't be surprised if it came out and was only 15 hours, which it probably will be. But it's not the length of a game that makes it good. It's its contents.

Yeah, for this game not to be decent to long in length would be bad for Remedy, because it is a single-player game. Since it lacks multiplayer, it must make up for it in the single player being of a satisfying length. Can't wait, one of my most anticipated games this year.

I highly disagree. There were tons of games before this generation that only had single-player. And they were well worth every penny, imo. To say that no single player game deserves a $60 purchase because it has no online MP is just downright ignorant.

thats good to hear. so many games nowadays are so short, focusing solely on multiplayer to lengthen the experience. what they dont understand is that SP should be the main focus. i think bioshock 2 did it right, outsourcing MP to another studio. i loved SP, they did a great job, MP wasnt the focus, but it also turned out to be a lot of fun. anyhow, cant wait for this. im bummed to hear it was three weeks away. i thought it was a bit closer haha. still better than five years!

This sounds great! I have already had Alan Wake and Red Dead Redemption pre-ordered and paid off for awhile now and I just can't wait.
