I have been collecting those for a long time but I never figured out for what they are for.

What are achievements for?

Achievements are something to make you feel like you did something with your life. After all we all need meaning to our lives! What better way to get it then from video games? ahahah.... Right....

acheivments are so you can tell who is a **** and has no life. the more i get the worse i feel about myself. its fun to try to get them by seriously i dont like it when more points are added to my score. i wish they would count as xbox points and i could buy **** then it would be worth something.

They did. I got a free copy of Fuzion Frenzy 2 and an Old Spice Red Zone T-shirt among other items.... There has not been a rewards program since the first one.

There are actually quite a few sponsors who do a "month long achievement" contest where they give you a point goal (like 1000 or 5000 in amonth), and if you've signed up and make the goal, you get a prize. Happens all the time.

The secret of it all is that 95% of these "contests" aren't advertised by Microsoft at all. You have to find an ad or search the net.

I've done a couple, and usually the most you get is a shirt or a month free of Live. Nothing huge or anything, just fun little prizes to work for.
