Hey all, I'm currently working on doing some research for a feature I'm writing on achievement systems in gaming for TWGnews.com, and I was wondering if you could help me out. I wanted to see if achievements effect the way gamers play or look at their games. So do you... 1 - Not care about Achievements 2 - Get what Achievements you can, but only casually 3 - Strive for Achievements, so long as you're rewarded (bonus game features, unlockables) 4 - Need to get every single Achievement known to man, so you can show your gaming prowess for all to see So share your thoughts, opinions and musings on achievements, I'd love to hear it. Thanks!

well Im in between 3 and 4 I do go for every achevement as long as its reasonable like Im going for the beat GTA 4 100%, and get other achevements like beating a game on the hardest difficulty, or playing a game more than one time. I will probably not go for achevements for games that I dont like and have to play to get like playing a certain online game 1000 times or getting 10000 kills in Gears of War 2 cause I dont like that game

I'd say #3 is the most accurate for me. As long as the achievement is asking for me to do something reasonable, I'll try and get it.

i usually do not care about achievements but they do give me a motive to go back and play a game sometimes, i would never have played kung-fu panda, but i played parts of it due to it having easy achievements?

I get as many acheivements in a game as I can/want to. Right now i'm striving for 1000/1000 in RE5 but this enthusiasm will only last for as long as i'm interested in the game. Only have about 10 acheivements to go though.

between 3-4 I like to try and get all the achievements in a game, but will only do very time consuming achievements if I enjoy playing the game - then it comes naturally.

I'd say that I'm between 3 and 4.

I will always look to see what achievements a game has and then strive to get as many as i can, althout i will not devote my life to getting every achievement in every game that i have. I just try to ensure that before i get rid of a game i will have got the achievements thati can and have a relatively high gamerscore for that game (600+).

Achievements are just like a bonus for games and in some cases they just add replay value. If i have the time I try to get most of them, but they don't really worry me.

I'm between a 3-4. If I know an acheivement is going to be far to difficult and is not something I'm going to enjoy earning, I don't bother. But I still like getting them.

why remove them if they do no harm at all? It does not make the gaming experience any different.

at first I was a 3, sometimes a 4. Now I'm a 1. After hitting 10k gamerscore, I've lost all interest completely. In fact, in the rare occasion I get an achievement these days, I don't really like it, it only makes me look even more like a loser to ppl viewing my account.

I couldn't care less about them unless it unlocks something more to the gameplay. It doesn't do anything for you. They're useless points and "bragging" rights. But who can really brag over a video game? So I'm between 1 and 2

I would say that I'm between 3 and 4. I get as many achievements as I can. However, I only get them if they are kind of easy. Like replaying games and things like that. I try to get lots of multiplayer ones but some, such as weapon exclusive ones, I don't really go for because I may or may not be good with it like some of the Halo 3 ones.

I go for achievements in the games I have. I generally don't buy a game just for achievements. I like them, and I get a sense of accomplishment from them. I like that there's a permanent file cataloging what I've done in games.

It's a tossup between 2 and 3. On Xbox, it's definitely 2. I like the feeling of doing something, then going, "Oh hey, that was pretty cool." and being rewarded for it, but gamerscore doesn't matter to me at all. On Team Fortress 2 (Steam) I was at 5/170 until I realised that there were unlockables. I pretty much played religiously every day until I unlocked all the weapons/items that were available for my characters, and I don't think I'm going to go back for any more achievements but just for the enjoyment of the game.

Total gamerscore doesn't say anything about a player's abilites or whatever, it just depends mainly on the amount of games he or she has. What can tell you something about a gamer's abilities or dedication is the individual gamerscore per game.

A little past 3. As long as they don't require something tedious or very time consuming, I have no problem trying to get them. For some games it does add a reason for replay. Heck, if there was no achievements in RE5, I would've never gone back and played a couple more hours. Hows that egg taste? :D

I really like achievements, I find they add alot to the replayability of a game. For example, I've beaten CoD4 and Halo 3 on their hardest difficulty settings for the achievements but I probably wouldn't have without achievments. I like the idea of getting points for progressing through a game and for doing things I wouldn't normaly do, even if the points are worthless. I wouldn't buy a game only for achievements though.

I say 2. It also adds replayability to pretty much all games.
