Ok so I plan on buying an Hdtv shortly (syntax olevia 27' lcd) and I was wondering how I was going to hook up my surround sound to either the Tv or the 360. First off I wanted to know, if I hook up my 360 through the tv can I use the other half of the cable and hook it up directly to the surround sound? And second if that does not work is an analog audio output a sourceto coneect surround sound from.

If you have a surround sound system why would you hook it up to an analog connection? At the minimum use Digital Optical. I would not settle for anything less then HDMI (gotta love that uncompressed PCM on Blu Ray!).

Your receiver is the brain of your system. Everything should run through it.

What surround sound receiver is it? This will help determine the best way to set it up. There are seriously several ways to do this.

I can hook it up already to the reciever and from it my SDtv gets picture and I get great surroud sound with the old system, but when I use the component cables for the 360 and have to swith to Hd on the cord will I still be able to hook the composite cables through the reciever to get surround sound? I really don't need to buy a new system because it still sounds so great you would not even know its 11 years old LOL.

It does not have Digital Optical? I bet it sounds good regardless. (I have an Onkyo 605) Not only is Onkyo one of the best receivers the older ones were just crazy. It has just a/v inputs?

I bet it does sound great. Believe me though, nothing analog can come even close to toughing any type of uncompressed sound. Analog cables simply can not support the bandwidth for higher bitrate audio. It is like comparing 480i TV to a 1080p TV. One may look good but the other looks GREAT.

Seems others answered it in a different manner, so heres my scenario. I have a 5.1 philips home theatre system so I just hook up the analog cables from the 360 to the player, then from the player output the video to my 37" LG flat screen. Now you can also just hook up the video output directly to your 27" then the left and right audio to the surround system, but I think you would have to extend video cable by attaching an extender plug.
