No Contests in 2013: John Cena vs. Ryback (Extreme Rules)

Facts & Stats:

- In a stark contrast to 2012, the WWE Championship main evented the first five PPVs this year - even the Royal Rumble (In comparison, the WWE Title was only defended in the main event for the first time in September last year). The last time the World Heavyweight Championship was contested in the main event was Kane vs. Undertaker at Hell in a Cell 2010.

- Alberto Del Rio built up a 9-PPV winning streak through 2012/2013. His last loss came at Hell in a Cell in October 2012.

- CM Punk's loss at the Royal Rumble was his first since Vengeance 2011, 15 months prior. Had he won outright at Night of Champions, Punk would also hold the record for most consecutive PPV wins at 13 (Cena still holds the record at 11 from 2006-07).

- If The Miz's match at WrestleMania had been on the actual PPV, he would be 4-0 at the event.

- Ryback went a whole year without winning a match on PPV. His win against Jericho at Money in the Bank was his first on PPV since the previous year's event - ending an 8-PPV losing streak.

- Wade Barrett's career PPV winning percentage stands at less than 25%. He's currently 5-16 - not incredibly amazing for a man who was the leader of Nexus and in the WWE Title picture to start off with.

- WWE Night of Champions will actually be the second night of the year where every title is on the line - Payback was the first.

- No tag team has regained the Tag Team Championships since Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel back in February 2011.

- There are currently a few superstars who are not only undefeated on PPV in 2013, but overall in their careers: Excluding those with only one PPV appearance, They are Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins & Curtis Axel. Brodus Clay also appears on this list if you exclude his elimination from the Royal Rumble. Antonio Cesaro and Dean Ambrose have yet to be pinned or made to submit on PPV.

- Currently Big Show & Kofi Kingston are statistically the worst on PPV in 2013, both with an 0-4 record.

- Of the 24 people who have competed in a PPV match in 2013 without winning yet, 11 were not because of a sole appearance at the Royal Rumble.

So, the big winners here are Cena (surprise, surprise) The Shield, and Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio? They're still trying to shove this can of re-fried beans down the people's throats? Not cool...

If I've learned anything from doing these over the past few years, it's that Cena's tends to balance out to be near-ish equal (it's because he has the WWE Title now that it's looking good for him). Depending on when he loses the title, I'd expect a couple of losses later on this year.

Wow, Punk and DB with subpar records, while Del Rio with undefeated?!

With the big boys Show and Ryback without a win.

Updated after SummerSlam... and yep, Del Rio STILL keeps on winning. NoC and HiaC and he'll match Cena's winning streak.

While all of Del Rio's feuds tend to suck, he's not getting credit where credit is due when it comes to in-ring work. He's consistently been great in PPV matches.

Del Rio's alright in the ring, but every time he has a match, I don't watch it. I'm so uninterested in Del Rio, that I can't be bothered to even watch him in a match. His feuds are such crap that they permeate into his matches and make me ask, "Why should i care?" then I change the channel or go take a p!ss.

Del Rio is a strange case. His matches are usually consistent in quality, but the only interest I have while watching them usually stem from his opponents. That said, since his heel switcheroo with Ziggler took place a little while ago, I've been far more interested in what he has to offer. A heel stance seems very natural for him, and this prompts my interest in his character actions during each of his matches. I just wish he was able to get out of this *** - *** 1/2 quality range in every encounter, though. Sometimes it does feel like the exact same thing, over and over.

Del Rio's streak, technically, comes to an end; Orton the only champion to lose their title, and Paul Heyman is undefeated in 2013. That was Night of Champions then.
