It's being reported that Smackdown diva Melina Perez recently did a photoshoot with the WWE Women's Title in tow. Trish Stratus is still the current WWE Women's Champion after defeating Mickie James last night at New Year's Revolution. It seemed as though that Mickie would be getting the belt last night, if not a little later, but if Melina is getting it now, it looks like WWE is going in a different direction. It was reported a few weeks ago that WWE had been thinking about making the Women's Title a cross-brand title. If it becomes a cross-brand title, the women's belt would be defended on both Raw and Smackdown.
WWE has been known to do photoshoots of their wrestlers with titles they haven't won yet when it concerns their magazines. The turnaround for their magazines is approximately a month, so say, by the time Melina has the belt, and the magazine is finally released, the shot of her with the title would seem incredibly recent. WWE did something similar with their Smackdown magazine last summer in that they released a magazine with Batista wearing a Smackdown shirt on the cover the week after he was drafted to Smackdown. In actuality, the photoshoot of him wearing a Smackdown shirt was done several weeks before the magazine was ever released, not to mention that it was done while he was still on the Raw brand.
Well that sounds promising for the Women's title. But will it help or hurt it, or have no effect.
I see this helping the title, well I hope it does. Of course this is the WWE, and there is no way to really know the effect of the cross-brand title for a few months.
I think it's a great idea to do that! It would spice things up. Afterall, Melina could wrestle. We all heard by now what Jillian can do, and I think she should get involve. Sharmell, I dunno what she can do, but she can try. Krystal is still in training I guess, so who knows what. We should see how things go and see if this idea backfire or not.
I think that Melina winning the Women's Title and making the title cross-promotional is well.... meh. They should've given the belt to Mickie anyway. I just don't understand why they are giving so much attention to a division that only has 2 "real" competitors, 3 if you count Lita, instead of the CW division.
I think is great. Now Jillian will be able to compete. She is an amazing wrestler. I just can't wait to see another match of her and watch her doing Moonsaults and her finisher, the 450 splash! She is a tremendous wrestler that has held many titles and loves to fight men! So, Melina won't be a big obstacle for her.
Yeah really. It's not worth the hassle IMHO, especially with SD! having an inch of Divas' compared to RAW. I doubt Jilian would be used, nor Sharmell as they have managerial roles. That new announcer (Kristal or something) looks like she'll be just doing her "job" while that leaves Stacy and Melina to do their bit for the Womens "Division".

Im guessing they are attempting to help the women's championship gain more attention and competition by going cross-brand and adding all the DIVA's to the contender's list.
