Believe it or not my favorite one is TM4. I don't why TM fans hate TM 3 and TM4. I have TM1 and TM4. 1 is was such a different game when it came out, 2 improved on it and 3 I never played. 4 is fun and has great multiplayer. Black i didn;t play much but was really fun.

I for one loved 3 and 4. They may have been different but I grew up on them. I think Black may be my favorite.

I loved all games, but I can't deny Twisted Metal 2. It was just so fun to play and had great replay value. The endings were pretty sadistic when it wasn't normal to have those types of endings. TM3 and 4 went a little soft, but were still really fun, and Black was just that. All awesome games.

Only Played Black and Head On, so I'm gonna pick Black, Just really unfortunate that the European edition had all the cutscenes removed because it was deemed way too violent

I've played them all. I'd rank them like this:

Twisted Metal Head On: Extremely Twisted Edition (PS2)

Twisted Metal Black (PS2)

Twisted Metal Head On (PSP)

Twisted Metal 2 (PSX)

Twisted Metal 4 (PSX)

Twisted Metal (PSX)

Twisted Metal Small Brawl (PSX)

Twisted Metal 3 (PSX)

The only ones I don't like are Small Brawl and 3. 4 has a bad rep, but it was a ton of fun and featured a killer licensed soundtrack. I also loved a few of the characters because of thier wackiness. The upgraded version of Head On wins because of the solid gameplay in addition to the ridiculous amount of extra content on the disc. If you guys don't have it, you should find a copy. It should be more than twenty bucks at the absolute most because it was that when it came out.

I'd totally agree with that list. Twisted Metal 2, Black, and Head-On really emphised what Twisted Metal was, is, and supposed to be. Twisted Metal 3, 4, and Small Brawl were great in theory, and had some great special features (Like the soundtrack for 3 and 4.), but forgot what the game was even about. The gameplay, and the endings were most important.

3 was the only one in the series I'd call bad. I couldn't figure out why they switched up the control scheme so bad. I didn't like the way it handled at all.

Three was fun, but it was way over the top. 989 went a little crazy with the World Tour idea, making the North Pole and Egypt levels. It was still pretty fun, though.

Black owns. I loved TM2 when it came out, but Black is in a league of it's own. If the new game becomes more like TM 1 or 2, I'd see it as a step back for the series. It really just proves "Once you go Black, there's no turning back"

I'm still going with Head On being the best. It was the perfect blend of Twisted Metal 2 and Black. Plus, it added a ton of features like getting bonuses for kills that you could keep until you die. (better machine guns, bonus weapons, better armor, etc,), special minigames that you could play in single player that would allow you earn weapons (some of which where a ton of fun), and it has probably the best weapon selection in the series. fire missile, homing, power, napalm, swarm missile, ricochet, environmental, etc.

Black does have the best stories though.

Now, if they took the elements from Head On, and added a few features from 4, it would be spectacular. I know a lot of critics didn't like 4, but the car creation tool was fun. Throw in a few more options and it would have been spectacular. Plus, the game also featured a ton of extra levels that were more focused on arena combat that full sprawling cities. There were levels like a giant mountain, a level were pecies would be constantly falling off, one with crazy jumps all over the place, and even one where touching the walls would send your car flying off the screen. Really, even if the gameplay and characters weren't the best, 4 had some wicked bonus features.

I really can't wait to see what the next TM will be like.

A remake of 3 isn't going to happen because the main forces of the original games (David Jaffe and Scott Campbell) are the ones making the next game and they REALLY didn't like what 989 did with 3 and 4.

Totally agree. A lot of people dont realize that he licensing to the series was sold to 989 for 3 and 4. The games were fun, the stories were terrible. I doubt the real creators would ever look back at either of those two games.

As far as I know, David Jaffe has only worked on 1, 2, Black, and the twisted edition of Head On, although that was mostly just a port.

Of Head-On for the PSP. It was ported to the PS2 in the Extra Twisted Edition with extra features and the level of Twisted Metal loss, an unfinished Twisted Metal that was supposed to be the sequel to Twisted Metal Black. I believe the games David Jaffe was not involved in were Twisted Metal 3, Twisted Metal 4, Twisted Metal Small Brawl, and Twisted Metal Head On (PSP). Just wondering, Jaffe was involved in Twisted Metal Black Online, right?

Just checked it. David Jaffe was the Game Director and Lead Designer. It was the same role he played in Twisted Metal Black, just didn't help in any of the stories (Because there were none.). Online featured a new battlegrounds designed for online battles, but not much more than that.

Sometimes the story is good, but the game ends up being way too short. Too much focus was put on Online.

I'm confused. Are you guys saying that too much effort was put on TM Black Online? Because that came out AFTER Black had already hit shelves. The original game had no online component. Online was just supposed to be that, and online version of Black's gameplay to help sell the network adapter. It was never supposed to be a sequel or anything.

And since Black had what many consider the best stories in the entire series, I hardly think there was a lack of ideas.

Not at all, I'm talking games in general these days. Actually mainly war games, where people see online play as the main importance. It could just be me, but the story mode of most of these kinds of games are way too short simply because gamers see online play as the main importance of any given game.

Black was awesome, but Black Online just didn't mesh with the PC. You really need a controller for that kind of game. Keyboards don't cut it.

Well the average consumer wants multiplayer, and won't buy a shooter without it. It there isn't a good online feature, it hurts the sales of the game.

Totally agree. I just wish creators wouldn't rush they're games to the shelves just to make money as soon as they possibly can. It's rare for a game to have both a really good story and online mode. GTA IV is probably the main exception, which is why it got a perfect score. I know David Jaffe recognizes this, which is why it's gonna take around 2 - 3 years to make TM PS3.

I hate to break it to you, but I've got a strong feeling that TM PS3 is going to have a major online mode to the game. I personally can't wait to hear details because I enjoy Online modes, but I'm praying the online mode doesn't take away from the story mode. Especially for a game like this.

(Imagine if the online mode was really fun, but the story mode was only like 4 levels...)

1. Developers don't rush the games. Its the publishers that force the game to be released.

 2. Online games are probably more difficult to make than offline ones because they have to spend so much time getting to work properly.

 3. Just because a game has a story doesn't mean it took that much more time to make.Â
