Doubtful, but I'm not sure on the limits around here.

I'd assumed one full post for the YT links, one more post for me to highlight anything interesting over the run, and then one final post to spillover into.  Better to reserve the space and not use it than to need the space and have it tucked away after 17 pages of discussion on whether super saiyan pubic hair goes blonde as well.

>the limits

Pretty high.  Around 20K characters or better.  Edits have no limits from what I can tell.  I've never gone as far as 100, but I've done 20+ in some cases.

>highlights

Suits me.

>better to reserve

That was my policy with old threads, certainly.

According to my porn, yes it does.

I think you are the new one who has just joined the union(as I realized that the number of the union has gotten 853). I've seen one video of yours(though I don't play Ascension), you're good, but it seems from your early videos that you used to be a speedrunner.

Yeah.

I love 10 hours of shield-pluming the same enemies as much as the next guy, but there's just something about violating the laws of time and space to go around them that appeals to me on a higher level.

Something like that.  Glitching too.  I suppose he'll have a 'challenge run' record to update now that he's joined us.

Wulf: >all that shield pluming

No worries. PAIN and PAIN+ won't have any of that.

So, I've found a way to keep the shield through the mag fight but it's not realiable or quick.  Does she just have a static health bar that's slow to chip away with attack deflection?  Or is it the timing of hitting her when she's summoning reinforcements?

What's your method?  Can't find it with a quick skim, if you wouldn't mind reposting it.

Wulf: >found a way

Other than those I noted?

>static HP bar with deflection

What?

>timing of

Seems like it is about the timing of hitting during summons (very little HP to chip away as it is balanced for the ultra weak spears to do the job, you see).

>method

Let's find out together. *checks*  Yep.  Just kill the Spartans to force summons and then hit her during them (couldn't test soul/fire specials, but nothing new is expected). That's until she retreats to the back area where I can't reach her with normals.  Fire rage dump doesn't work on the former for some reason.  Pretty sure Soul rage dump did (have to re-test).  For the last position, Javelins (obvious), fire rage dump (during summons) or ranged specials.  Haven't tested to see if any held inputs reach, but I doubt it.

Air t1 was advised for decent damage, reach and low rage building (concerns for PAIN+).  With upgrades, with the desire to keep the shield, I imagine air T would rip and tear (but then you also have soul rage dump if you're upgrading properly *granted, VH might slow you enough that having lvl3 Soul and lvl4 BoC might be a bit much by this point without exploiting something for EXP*).

I go on about invisible objects to hit with shield plume for meter and some other tidbits.  The format is dense in those sorts of reports and will be cleaner for the re-testing though I'm feeling lazy about going over old ground again for things I won't care about with NUR and beyond (elements, MAX moveset, etc.).  Who can blame me?

Deeb: >other runs

Wulf?  I forget.  He would have to remind me.  I think that info is available at gow3forums.

Alright, sounds like I just covered the work you'd already done then.  Kill enemies, hit her when she leans over the ledge.

I was asking earlier if she took damage all the time or only during summons.  The answer appears to be only during summons, if she doesn't bleed when the hit deflects it didn't count.  Using  L2+s allows you to get two jump attacks in per summon.

I couldn't hit her with anything but fire rage dump in the final position, but it did the trick.  Should have the chapter uploaded tonight, but didn't have time to do a clean run of the next part.  Quit just before finishing it to preserve the checkpoint and redo it without getting hit like a scrub.

As for what runs I've done to completion, I'm pretty sure I've only completed NUR+ of each entry.  Not sure enough that I've done them all to ask for credit in the thread though, and not like it's gonna give me huge street cred anyway.  I've dabbled in everything but doing full runs is a huge commitment relative to my free time.

Edit:  Completed NUR+ of each 'other' entry.  Still working on GoWA.

>covered the same ground

Suits me.  Just shows you're able to figure these things out on your own (and show them).

>only during summons

Certainly in the first two positions. The third works a bit differently.  Obviously spear tosses negate this aspect.  Perhaps other WWs can negate it on direct hit as well.  Air sword or club swings?  Hard to say.  Sling?  It's trash though.  Too bad air o1 with the shield doesn't hit on the way down.  Real oversight there.

>doesn't bleed

And it doesn't add to hit count.

>AoU during summon

Increases the opening length as when I used Castor's stupid AoE for my parry to keep the active reflection frames going longer.  Figured that would work.  Hadn't tested it yet. Good find.

>just fire rage

If you had soul rage, it might work.  Also, ranged specials.  Pretty sure those work too.

>NUR+ of all entries

I see, but you seem to note none of the runs were completed.

>each 'other' entry

So GoW1, CoO, GoS and now GoW:A, but not GoWII or GoWIII?  Or did you mean in terms of chronology rather than release?  Or did you count Betrayal in there somewhere?

For clarity, excluding Ascension, I believe I've completed NUR+ of every entry that didn't rhyme with a word that rhymes with Betrayal.

Edit:  Though for some reason I can't remember any of the plot of GoS.  I'll say that one's a maybe.

Interesting.

Just noticed that the final hit in my Mag/Tig fight is landed against Mag, who is shielded.  I'd noticed they had a shared health pool, but didn't think to focus on attacking Mag while shielded.  That could make the fight pretty trivial.  Though on any harder runs where it would be useful, I doubt you could do much with it without shield pluming.

>maybe

You remember the Keres Wraiths?  Geryon?

>shared health pool

Seemed that way.

Pretty sure I tested that for a good while.  With shield pluming and the CP glitch too, if I'm not mistaken.

Gow3forums doesn't even have my GoW1 NUR+ marked (shameful as that newbly display of my youth was).  Not gonna claim any official run credit without proof, however minimal, but I never got the impression that the gow3forum thread was the indisputable history of runners.

Because I've played the games over the past half decade and had poor record keeping skills?

Let's go with SK's list and say I've completed none of them.  Starting with GoW:A, let's check things off the list as I complete them.  I'm sure I'm due for another run through the series regardless.

Bad news for speedrunning GoWA - It doesn't appear that restarting from the last checkpoint resets the time played back to that point.  Speedruns will have to be done in a single shot from each load point, then quit and reload if you screw up.

And that's assuming it doesn't immediately write the time played to the save.  It'll need to be tested thoroughly before any competitive speedrun times can be compared.

Wulf: >updates

It won't matter regarding NUR+ when you circle back for PAIN/PAIN+, yes?  At least by how TUGOWU tracks run records.  All in good time.

>clock specifics

>timer keeps going during restarts

Lovely.  Pretty sure GoW1 didn't do that.

>more testing needed

Yep.  I never liked that part of the job.

Speedrun: In every part of the series, restarting from the last checkpoint doesn't restart the time you have played.

Proof: Manesh in GoWII made his speedrun from save point to save point. Also on GoWI there was a speedrunner who made his speedrun from save point to a save point

You're wrong.  Speedruns are made from save point to save point because it would be incredibly silly to stop at a point that wasn't a save point.

I can personally confirm that GoW 1 did not cost you time when you chose to restart from last checkpoint, and had heard no mention of any other GoW game working that way.  It makes speedruns infinitely more tedious if you have to quit and reload every time you make a minor mistake.

GoW:A will be especially difficult due to the lack of save points.  If you complete an area but you're not happy with it, your "Time played" has already been written to the save file.  Re-doing the chapter appears to just add on to the time instead of replacing the time spent on that chapter.  Needs confirmation as I didn't note exact times.

Anyway, I don't really believe in speedrun veteran. Anyone could do a speedrun, it's only a matter what to upgrade, how to skip fights, when to take chests, and what gorgon eyes and phoenix feather needs to be skipped. But what I believe in is glitching, it needs a genius. I believe that glitchers are the most people that have a chance to be a game programmers.

I don't believe in PAIN+ veteran.  Anyone could do a PAIN+ run, it's only a matter of when to block, when to attack, and when to roll.

Deeb: >every

It varies.  The Glitch FAQs go over this.  GoS and GoW:A didn't get them though.

>proof

Some entries allow restarts (checkpoint abuse), but others require quit/reload (from savepoints) with regards to resetting the clock.

>sure about GoWII

As you should be.

>don't believe in speedrun veteran

What's all this?

>anyone

Yet so few manage times of any note.

>what to upgrade

If anything.  Also, how to upgrade that thing (getting the EXP, where to upgrade it *for other exploits*, etc.).

>how to skip fights

Or entire areas.  Also, these techniques aren't alway so easy as with the GoS method.  Figuring out the triggers and all that can take time and even when you know how to do it, not all of them are easy to manage.  Some require precision and timing to say the least.  OoB cases require memorization of collision and sometimes the entire area if the camera messes up (including going totally dark).

>when to take chests

Which might often be 'never'.

>which items to collect

Probably among the 'never' category too.  We often finding regenerating/infinite magic exploits aside from runs with tools allowing it already (costumes, possessions, urns, artifacts, etc.).

>glitching

Often a tool for combat and even that leads back into speedrunning (as the aim).  Though, some glitches are more for amusement than utility.

>glitchers

Many of them tend to also fancy speedruns (if not doing the speedrunning).

>forgot to mention

He respects PAIN/PAIN+.  He's merely having a go with regards to the comment on speedruns.  Much of what you note for PAIN+ factors in speedruns too.  Not everything can be skipped and optimal handling in terms of speed is the ultimate concern, so you need good handling and good tactics.  Can't dally around.  Just being bad at quick rolling (or other rapid movement aspects) adds up quite a bit over the course of a run.

>worth time

It would take a long time to learn the best skips, optimize for the run, practice the skips, practice segments and do it all.  Just for GoW1, you would need to do as well as tyrhhjy and then denote which skips he didn't use for whatever reason (new or he couldn't reliably do them) while doing as good or better in terms of everything else to beat his time (which was something like 55 minutes).

Doing a 1 hour (or less *sub-1 hour*) run is no joke, Deeb.  Even if you know what they do, it doesn't mean you can just execute it perfectly.  Many don't even understand what they are seeing in the more complex skips (or how it is done).  So that makes it even harder to emulate.  This is what Wulf would like you to understand.  Then competing against the times of others in the world can make it that much more trying.

TUGOWU recently tightened up the time expectations for qualifying quite a bit, but even now requires more tuning while we do allow for very forgiving final times versus just noting the records and only tracking the fastest of a particular run.

Wulf: >silly to stop at a non-save point

Silly to stop at all in a single segment run, but we don't seem to get much of that in our runners.

>haven't heard of an entry that doesn't reset the clock on restart

"It works differently from the one in GoW 1, very differently. I must say I prefer the GoW 1 clock... Game clock begins counting at the start of the first in-game scene. On retry, the game time is not reverted back. (unlike in GoW 1) While in weapons (start) menu time DOES run. While in save menu, time DOES run. § During FMV's the time DOES run. During in-game cutscenes, time DOES run. During loading times, time DOES run. While in the pause (select) menu, time does not run. While in the screen which you get if you open up the disc tray, time does not run." - AKheon (GoWII Glitch FAQ)

GoWIII FAQ and CoO don't note it.  Can't speak on GoS or GoW:A (you covered that).  GoW1's Glitch FAQ just reconfirms what is known.

>bad for lack of savepoints

Tested chapter select on that front?  The Continue option versus purely using 'restart'?

>chapter select just piles it on

Those shady motherf***ers... This wouldn't fly with Platinum. They don't count time spent in QTE finishes, cutscenes, loading, restarts, some non-combat areas, deaths, etc. in the final time which caused Vanquish and MGR:R in particular (Bayonetta less so) to get flack about being 'too short' when the players were too dumb to realize the clock was just stroking their (undeserved) ego.

>needs confirmation

I can understand 'restarts' (though annoying), but not Continue (and absolutely not Chapter Select).  It only sort of makes for settings lower than VH as they give you full HP refills for every single checkpoint if you restart (or die, I suppose).  For deaths, maybe that would be excusable for keeping time on VH, but restart won't give that perk, so why count time? Just tricking the dips*** reviewers and casuals into thinking the game was longer than it really was (as with all the filler/padding)?

>PAIN+ jest

Yes, yes.  To take the joke further, anybody could be a VH NUR and higher Clone veteran.   You just need to block or evade certain attacks, keep the Clones grouped, isolate one to drain its spawn pool and watch the trajectory of Agony's bolts.  Simple enough.  Plumes all day with some OH redirection and maybe T (less so s6).  But such is the nature of the play at (over)simplifying.

Ok, GMG. We were just f***ing around, don't take seriously. You're right, but still I hate speedrun and isn't worth my time.

Now for Wulf. If you think that anyone could be a PAIN veteran and PAIN+ conditions are so easy. Why do you play on a very simple, easy, halarious run at GoW:A(NUR+)? Why don't you play on PAIN+ conditions with no collisions? Well, that ryhmes "conditions and collisions". Sounds great, doesn't it?

Deeb: >just f***ing around

Even still, it's worth treating seriously.  I don't often defend the merits of speedruns.  I don't like doing them.  Too much work that I don't enjoy.  A mess of planning, re-doing, etc. with glitches/exploits more the focus than combat tactics with varying conditions.

>still hate them

I like watching them and even helping out where I can, but I just won't do them.  Least of all with a serious effort at the record times.

>if he thinks

He doesn't believe that.  He's simply using the same sort of reasoning used to devalue speedruns (but on PAIN+ *which he does respect*).  It's the same with the jest I made about the Clones.

>why not PAIN+

All in good time.  Adel and Taz haven't bothered either regarding GoW:A.  It's sort of a pain in the ass to bother.  Wulf might end up being the first at this rate.  This said, NUR+ allows more tactics that deserve coverage.  As we further restrict our options, we have less options (breeding more creativity sure, but why not master all options?).

>with no collisions

What?

Wulf: >hard steppin

You boys having a giggle?  Is that it?

>why not do one

Lack of enjoyment.  Of course, the more important concern is acknowledging that they are worthy, just not 'for him'.  I very much enjoy glitching too (just don't do a lot of it *some dabbling here and there*).  Values/percentile testing isn't exactly fun, but because nobody else wants to, it falls upon me.  Sort of like the run skeleton.  AKheon became burdened with making the Glitch FAQs time and again.  Challenge runs are the shared interest of most vets.

Don't worry, I don't take anything seriously.  I was just carrying on since you seemed to still think I was anti-PAIN when a simple look at my Li'l Black Book of Dominatrices would show otherwise.

Deeb: >apology

"I never asked for this." - J.C. Denton *jokes abounds*

Jests aside, there is no need for it.  Just to acknowledge speedruns.  To talk trash about them is otherwise just fine.

Trial of Archimedes notes and observations as I go:

Gorgons can be rung out through the north side, on the other side of the fire barrier.

A stoned gorgon can just barely be destroyed if hit with an uninterrupted shield charge.

Deeb: >singing

Sometimes.

Wulf: >the other book

I'm sure you have Zig's full attention.

>ToA

Gorgon ring-outs on the North side?  So the descriminatory invisible walls work in our favor for once, eh?  I'd gone over Shield Charge testing of Gorgons in my rehash of fights in VH NG+, yes?  I forget.  If not, I should have.  So what rung them out?  EoT, fire bombs or what?  Needs to be something that can knock them down.  What of the Sirens?  What of a PAIN+ method to ring them out?  Still a no go?  I can't imagine we have much in the way of tools on that front.  I left notes on the video Adel did with regards to what more I have intent to test.

NOTE: "Well done, everyone!  Well done!"   But it still needs something.  More grammar correction, notation of casuals (then up the ante by using "scrub" regarding MP), offers to teach the ropes (with games outside of GoW even), more condescension, etc.

> North ringout

I was able to ring them out with OSoO, fire/soul rage plumes, and once by simply blocking while they both attacked me and pushed each other around.  Once you start blocking though, you're stuck, as you have nowhere to roll and the attacks are too constant and too close to escape.  After the initial positioning is lost they're either safely pushing you against the edge or pushing you back into the fire barrier, neither of which will ring them out.  Soul hand from the normal side of the fire barrier can get them right to the edge, OSoO 'should' be enough to knock them out at that point if it wouldn't get lost all the time....

The fire barrier can be shield jumped over before the fire makes it damaging, by the way.

>Stone/shield charge smash

Don't see any mention of shield charge in your coverage for that spot.

Something weird goes on with stoned gorgons.  In perfect conditions I have about a 25% chance of shattering them.  I even played around with glitching the grab so that I break free and the animation carries on while I have control.  A full shield charge against a gorgon for the entire duration of the stoning, which then includes the time normally wasted to finish the grab, still wasn't breaking them.

If the unstoned gorgon does a gaze attack after being released, you can shield charge into the opposite side of the stoned gorgon and the gaze will keep it stoned until you can shatter it.

Deeb: >method

Which one?  I talked about a few plans (and not just for GoW).

Wulf: >OSoO

Not the most reliable, but it's something.

>fire/soul rage plumes

I don't see how soul would need 'rage' as such.  It doesn't gain anything from it that I can tell.

>simply blocking

Neat.

>stuck

I'm sure.

>intial position loss

So at best ringing out two of them?  At any rate, I'd like to see this in action.

>shield jumped

Such a useful engine, that Thomas.

>for that spot

Probably because I didn't get to that spot in testing.  I tested the first Gorgon appearance in the VH NG+ coverage with regards to this.

>break out

I saw this.  I wonder if the Gorgon at the center would be immune until that plays out (or beyond) due to i-frames in the animation somehow being carried over as with shield users that get frozen (invincible).

>depends on the kindness of another Gorgon

Oh, my.

>keep it frozen

As with using the ice spell on frozen targets over and over.  Too bad we cannot 'break' out of that (best case being the effect stays in play while we attack statues).

I was joking, I didn't play GoW:A so that I could judge that you're method was good or not.

> Soul rage

Sloppy wording.  Soul hand or fire rage plume.

> 2 ringouts at best

You can get one reliably, and if you're counting on luck I guess you could get all 4 depending on how kind spawn positioning is.  If the respawn is beside you instead of ahead/behind, then there's no reason I can think of that it couldn't also be hit by its co-gorgon's attacks and dumped off the edge.  Once the sirens spawn the lightning attacks would probably cause enough chaos to either dump them over or push you into the fire.  I didn't spend enough time on it to be sure as even if it kills all the gorgons, crossing the fire barrier again is another problem to solve.

> that spot

By "that spot" I meant the Kirra gorgon in your coverage.  You'll have to excuse some minor miscommunications when I'm stream of consciousnessing on the less adversarial forums.  You'll excuse them and you'll like it.

>depends on the kindness of another Gorgon

Not entirely, but that makes it reliable.  I really don't get why sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  It seems that statue HP is renewed when stoned a second time, but I suppose they may just have close to two charges worth of non-freshing statue health and I haven't been keeping count.

> I'd like to see this in action

I'll see if I can do a quick edit and upload of last night's session highlights before I head out for the evening.  It won't be of a quality level that I'd want to leave up so I'd delete it after a few days, but it could show you what I'm working with.

Deeb: >joking

Noted.

>didn't play to test

I didn't expect that this should be necessary to get a feel for what may or may not work (or be 'good').

Wulf: >wording

I see.

>how kind

Ah, yes.  How I love depending on this factor.

>cross over later is another matter

True.

>in my coverage

Which one?  The vanilla H stuff or VH NG+?  It seems unlikely I would forget to try the Shield Charge after an ice dump.  Possible, but unlikely.

>excuse it and like it

Make it worth my while.

>don't get it

That's the trick with this sort of thing.  Figuring out how it works.  I remember having to do a bit of thinking on how the regenerating magic at Typhon happened when I first found it.

>upload

By all means.  Butter me up.

>what you're working with

Shake that ass, sailor.  Just remember to watch yourself around teacher.
