It wasn't that much of a surprise. I was expecting a next gen on 3DS. What would have been a surprise is if they had announced a console game. I'm still holding out hope that they do.

It wasn't that much of a surprise. I was expecting a next gen on 3DS. What would have been a surprise is if they had announced a console game. I'm still holding out hope that they do. It surprised me since I thought they would releases remakes of the Hoen region before a new generation of Pokemon.
They needed a new game to show off the 3DS' capabilities for a Pokemon game. My guess is next time there will be a remake. And it's going to be a big remake. They need to add in a lot of stuff to bring Ruby/Sapphire to Pokemon standards (clock, daily/weekly events)
